It's genuinely a clean car, but just want it gone from the back yard at this stage. I'm on holidays from Friday for two weeks so hopefully the guy who offered it can pick it up this week otherwise it'll be two weeks time.

To build on my post from a few days ago regarding big old French cars

I have a last-of-the-line 2000 Renault Safrane RXE 2.0 manual that is going to be scrapped during the week unless someone wants a project. Its an Irish car, 3 owners, 114k miles. Timing belt & water pump allegedly done at 70k.

There isn't much wrong with it to my knowledge; could do with tyres, a battery and an engine mount possibly. The central locking doesn't work and the passenger side door won't open from the inside or outside. It is a lovely yoke to drive though, and is loaded with kit. Its fairly clean inside and out too.

    /plug

If anyone thinks they might want one of these cars here's a great opportunity. This one is a car I know and yes it's a little rough around the edges but it's mechanically really well sorted.

It would need the rear left quarter panel painted. Oil and filter and a timing belt kit. The belt has basically no miles on it but it is due on the number of years at this stage. It would also benefit from a set of tyres but other than that it should need nothing. It's a genuine low miles car and well spec'ed too. I don;t know who the current owner is but I'm a friend of the previous owner who had if for a number of years.

Latest fixerupper. Just picked this up today for €375. NCT out since march. Engine really strong, drives well. Suffers from usual list of Stilo electrical gremlins ( primarily an intermittent dashboard failure)

Hope to get it fixed and NCT'ed and use it for a few months as I've just bought a house that I'm going to renovate so need something that can carry bulky stuff. They are huge in the back with the seats down.

Was going to get a van but dont want the hassle of commercial tax.

You're mad for the Stilos :pac:

Diesel presumably yeah? What kind of power is in them?

I am in the same position and am looking at Caddy's and Transits. What's the issue with commercial tax?

Theres an expression - "better the devil you know..."

After a year with the Yellow One, I've learned how to sort most of the issues, so it made sense to stick with a Stilo. Its a 1.6 petrol - at this budget a troublesome diesel would be too expensive to put right.

Technically you need a vat, company or herd number. Plenty manage without, but, like I say, just dont want the hassle for a difference of less than 200e.

Hey I didn't realise it was your own car. Is there a link to the ad? I'm on my mobile now so maybe it doesn't work so well

I haven't made an ad yet but here's the details:

    2000 Ford Escort LX
    1.4 petrol, 5 speed manual
    Approx 146k miles, runs great
    Fog lights
    Electric windows
LED sidelights and some interior lights
Very new Brembo brake discs and Mintex pads
Recently changed air filter and cleaned MAF sensor
    Fresh pressed metal plates

Will come with 14" steel wheels with decent tyres
Will also come with a Haynes manual and spare side indicators (green)
    NCT just out
Bit of rust (not as bad as other Fords of that age) and handbrake are things that need a bit of work.

If full price is met (€300) will also throw in unused 40mm lowering springs

Here are 87 pictures of it throughout my ownership: https://www.flickr.com/photos/124274436@N02/albums/72157660204035493

Starting to look well - spent an afternoon polishing about 10 years of neglect on the stilo.

Well lads a few of you may remember this CLK from back in the day. My family have owned this car since 2013. We bought it as a bangernomics car back then. Over 30,000 miles the only non service items it has needed are one coil pack and a radiator. Really really reliable car and could well suit someone here looking for something cheap and has the knowhow to do the couple of little jobs it needs. Unfortunately I just don't have the time.

Jaysis, €350. Even with tatty bodywork that's a give away.

Shame to say it but some young lad would buy that for the schlab in a hearbeat i'd say.

You think the price is fair yeah? wasn't really too sure how to price it but thought I might as well price it high and drop as I need to.

Swap my ads for the Celica €500 your way :pac::pac:

I'm very tempted to buy that Merc, park it in the shed for ten years, then respray it when its a "classic".

    Best offer so far :pac:

Sure the wheels and tyres alone must be worth the asking price. I wouldn't be entertaining the thought of dropping any more on inspection anyway.

Well they're not the greatest tyres I'll be honest :pac: Not the worst but not really great. Perfectly legal and plenty of Irish people driving on worse :p

The problem is that it's probably too old for most people to insure and it's not clean enough to be a classic. It would be a good slab car except it's so slow :P Maybe it'll suit someone.

Walter the CLK sold just now. Nice chap who lives fairly local. Hope it's as good to him as it was to us. :)

We gave €875 for the car in 2013 with a years test. 30,000 miles (almost to the mile!) we sold it for €300. Only none service items it ever needed was one coil pack and a radiator. I think it's fair to say it can't be done for less. Walter will be missed!
