Advantage stenson. You can't be missing fairways with an iron Phil.

look phil always has one of these - so if he can get away with a bog. it will be ok.

What makes this so compelling is that it's basically matchplay right now. If these two were in different groups there is no way they'd both be playing as well as they are. They are bringing up each others level.

I find matchplay the most exciting form of golf, and while this isn't strictly matchplay, it's as close to it as you will get in a strokeplay event. I wish one of the majors was matchplay being honest. But given the history attached to the 4 events, that will never happen at this stage.

Whats even more annoying is that they seem to be showing nearly all of his shots and he is out of contention.
    Very poor coverage.

The PGA used to be matchplay until the late 50s

It is incredible golf by the top 2 right now. No arguments there.

But I've watched a lot of the Open this weekend and I can't recall even once anybody on Sky saying somebody hit a dreadful shot, or that somebody was playing badly. All you get is "things just aren't going his way today". Earlier today Phil (I think) missed a 3 footer, and one of the commentators said something along the lines of "He didn't play a bad shot, he just got the line wrong". That sounds like a bad shot to me!

I guess I'm just a traditionalist and I do miss the BBC commentators.

I don't think that's fair. If somebody executes a shot exactly how they read it, you can't say they hit a bad shot. It was a bad read, not a bad shot.

don't know if it is anything to go by.

But Henrik has scored better on last few during week.

Is it just me or does it look like Jim McGuinness is walking from hole to hole with Sergio, looked to be walking with him from the 16th green

I'd love to see that return, be it a once off or permanent!

Some shooting here today, great to see.

It would really differentiate it from the US Open if they ever brought that back. The Masters and the Open have their own identity, but the US Open and PGA tend to feel like the same tournament, and they play them on the same type of courses. Matchplay would be a great addition, and the type of status that format deserves. Probably never happen though.

Could be.. he was spotted at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. Better fare at Troon than at Clones today anyway.

That was a massive putt for Stenson. Again.. the quality of golf from these two is just great.

On the same level of speith at Augusta last year and when Rory won his first U.S. Open. Just incredible performances. Ball striking is outrageous.

Sky always have some minnow story they like to latch onto. If it's not dechambeau it's Rose or Fitzpatrick or beef. It sells, that's their business.
