Having a look again at Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro from aliexpress.

Edit: 7 July 2015 22:00, just order the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro @ €199.65 including DHL EU express shipping.

Phone arrived yesterday (13/7) at lunch time. Did not get charged any VAT.
I'm looking at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro on gearbest at the moment, can you guys explain the difference between the smartphone & phablet? & where is the best place to buy? Planning on buying at some stage over the next week thanks to the advice given here.

See my link from the seller I got from. They are also available from amazon.co.uk but don't know if i would trust the sellers there?

Important warning: That can only connect to half of 3 Irelands 4G masts, rather a big limitation for a shiny new handset. Especially a factor if you live outside of a bigger town.

Living In Cork City and 4g works so all good on that matter.

Due to family commitments, I haven't got a chance to really use the phone yet.

From the above seller it came with a Stock Global ROM (Not vendor rom), I did allow them to run quality control (+ Install google etc) on the device which arrived opened.

    Unlocking Bootloader

If you intend to do this, Create an Mi Account when ordering and request unlock privileges. Can take 2 weeks to be approved, I applied late Sunday Night and received permission late on Tuesday.

Unofficial Unlock method also available, but you need to be careful how you flash roms using that method.

I used the updater app on the phone to flash the developer rom (MIUI 8 Global 6.7.5 | Beta) and have successfully use the unlock tool to unlock it.

    Developer Support

Plenty support on XDA Forums for this device. Plus a good wiki on reddit.

It has Android 5.1.1, No NFC, Could not choose Ireland/UK in localization.

Marshmallow custom roms available but don't know how stable they are yet.

    News

The Redmi Note 3 is the world's fifth most popular Android smartphone in H1 2016

Future MIUI ROMs Will Be Based On Android N Version (Just wondering if the RN3 Pro will have this rom developed for it.)

    What now?
Need to put twrp on it.

I have yet to decide what custom rom, I am going to flash on it and will also root. What are others using?

Will be doing the above and then setup the device properly and installing apps etc.

Redmi Note 3 Pro on Aliexpress - seller Goldway

Any opinions on this? It's cheaper than the above link. Any reason not to choose this over the above Top One seller?

    Cheers

It looks like it will have a vendor rom! Not a problem if your going to wipe and flash a stock rom.
In the Volgograd phone reached 13 days. complete dealer put the adapter socket on the euro and film. seller requested leave factory firmware, but the phone came with some unknown firmware with a bunch of third-party programs and two viruses (without any problems please the global using the site 4pda.ru). recommend seller very fast delivery.

    Quote from the comments.

From the place I got, the price included some gifts, sim adapter, 2 screen protectors and 1*TPU Soft Case (even when I requested Nilkin case)

Mi4C (3gb-32gb) or Mi5? Both far better size wise when compared with the LG G2 that I'm used to.

    Mi4C 'Mokee' ROM - http://en.miui.com/thread-243792-1-1.html

    Mi5 Cyangenmod - http://en.miui.com/thread-280535-1-1.html

Price difference is pretty big, so would prefer to pay less (Mi4c) obviously, but don't want to get stuck with an 'Old' android as want to be fairly future-proofed here.

    Thoughts?

I am 80% certain I'm going for the Mi5. Anyone have anything to change my mind on this? (or a recommended seller)

I have the p9000 nearly 3 weeks now and I have to say it really is excellent.

No GPS issues (tested even with Pokemon Go!).
Battery easily lasts the day. It actually lasts longer than my Z3c.
Software is fine. Volume rocker beeps are annoying though!
    Screen is perfect.

Battery is great on my P9000 also, can't understand how it only gets 5.1 rating on Kimovil

Have it a few months now though, so must be time to start looking for the next phone!! :D

Itll work, but you've less than 50% of the 4G coverage of most people. Means you may end up on a cell 2km away when theres a better cell 500m away that your phone doesnt know exists.

Looking for a replacement from an eu store. The p9000 seems the best bet unless anyone can recommend anything else. Is there decent covers/screen protectors available?

Hello - Anyone have a solution to remove the EDGE/3G/H+ Icon next to the Bar Signal on these China Sourced phones? - on the likes of well known brands as Samsung , Huawei, Sony etc when you have wifi connection established the Mobile data Icon extinguishes and then when you turn off wifi and the phone is on Mobile data then the E/3g/H+ signal shows. But on these China phones (well 2 now I have had, different makes) the E/3G/H+ sign always shows next to the signal bars, even if I have turned 'Mobile Data' to off and are on wifi. The Android version is 5.1

The Phone I have just got is an UMI ROME X and a previous one i had was a Doogee - both these phones act the same, the E/3G/H+ always seem to show the letter next to the signal bars - my other Phone an Huawei GX8 doesnt show the symbol when I am on wifi or have the Mobile Data off. - why do these china phones work this way?

    Thanks for any advice.

I've basically been drilling into Hongkong Goldway that the warranty on my LeTV has been shot to pieces in every possible way you can void a warranty (rooting, new recoverys, total rebuild of hardware level software, custom ROM, xposed, several admitted drops and a smashed up front panel).

"Its okay send back, we will replace screen"

    Sound bunch so far anyways

Hey Digital Solitude, did you have any problems rooting or installing TWRP on the x800. Tried various methods and have got nowhere...would't be the most technical so maybe doing something stupid..

I have an UMI Super and I recall someone posting a zip file on its XDA thread that can be flashed via TWRP to remove this icon.

So this suggest you need to be rooted and have twrp installed to do this.

There's a rooting guide on xda and letv.re that explains in detail how to do it. Very easy, none of those one click root methods work.

You don't need to root to install a custom recovery.

If it's the guide below I've followed it and get stuck after launching the recovery.bat file...phone reboots to the penguin....10 seconds later the penguin disappears and the phone then continues to boot as normal.....any ideas?

no, but i had to root it if im thinking of using xposed to get rid of the data symbol - i like using the app setting for xposed as well and increasing dpi setting per app

I placed an order on Thursday for a Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime. Does anyone know how long it takes to be shipped, in general? Mine says "Awaiting Shipment".

You didn't say where you ordered it from.

I order late on Thursday night and received the following Wednesday lunch time, from AliExpress (DHL EU express shipping). See my post here.

Edit: You have already replied to my link post, which seller did you choose.

I also decided to try MIUI 8 by xiaomi.eu (6.7.14 | Beta ) rom on my device, and happy so far with the choice.

Hey, I chose the other seller Hong Kong Goldway but I chose unopened so will receive it with the original rom. Good to hear that you you're happy with that rom because I intend on flashing it once I receive the phone. Doubt it will be Wednesday at this stage though :P

My seller was very good with communicating DHL codes. Had two codes, one for china to UK and the other UK to Ireland.

Try uninstalling the device drivers and then reinstalling, or a different USB port.

    Or both.

I recall I had to launch the .bat twice in a row I think, when the phone reboots just run the recovery.bat again.

If that still doesn't work, flash it the old fashioned way using fastboot and adb, I can give a hand there if you need it.

Just got my second chinese phone from oppomart. Got the Xiaomi Mi 4 for €145 delivered. Shipping took 9 working days.

Seems like a good phone. Bought for my brother so I won't be doing to much testing on it. A little bulkier than the Redmi 3 pro.

So my brother has managed to drop the phone already and break the screen. Literally dropped it in to him on Friday and it was broken by Sunday.
Anyone know where a screen replacement might be bought from? I now have to help him get it fixed.

Moral of the story. Don't do anything for family, ever.

I don't know of any places in Ireland that will fix it. I had a Mi4 that had a broken screen twice, it seems a fairly fragile phone to be honest, the second break it fell from my sofa to the floor, a distance of 3 feet at most.

You can get replacement screen here:
    http://www.honorbuy.com/37-Replacement-Parts-for-xiaomi-mi4

I believe its a fairy tricky phone to repair though, the design means its easy to damage the metal band when opening it up.
