Yeah, it was pretty barbaric alright.
My husband was born in June 1982, his mum went into labour at the start of one of France's matches and his dad waited til I was over to bring to the hospital!
I hope it didn't go to penalties.

No, it was in the group stage.

Typical French fans, display either complete apathy or scorning derision of their team until they get to the final.

Really? I've seen lots of people wearing jerseys, crowds of people outside bars cheering on the French etc from early in the competition.

Yup, watched two of their group games in French bars and pretty much everyone had their faces painted or were waving flags. Celebrations in the street after beating Albania.

Only natural there'll be bigger celebrations for winning a semi or a final. Look at any big GAA team. You won't see many Kerry or Dublin fans going mental about beating Clare or Wexford in a provincial semifinal but it's party time if they're still winning in September.

No disrespect to any counties mention. I'm a Dub myself

The final could well be an unfancied team in Portugal who have limped into the final (3rd place in the group, turgid knockout performances including a late winner and a penalty shootout then a win against an overwhelmed Wales team who were missing key players) and beating the very fancied and seemingly favourite host nation.

The contrast is ironic to when Portugal were hosts, favourites to win the final and ended up losing to the unfancied Greeks in 04.

Must be a southern thing then. Had to laugh at all the indignant Marseillais shocked they couldn't get semi final tickets at two day's notice after they spent 500 million of their own money on the velodrome renovation.

Did anyone find the Viking chant thing they did a little bit cringey?

Leave it to the Icelanders lads.

I hope France absolutley hammer Portugal. Totally unlikable team.

I'd like to see Portugal do it considering that they've never won anything before.

The frogs aren't the most likeable bunch either.

At least if France do win it Ireland will be included in their DVD of the championship.

Is there a way both can lose?

    Two detestable teams.

Portugal unlikable? Haven't you seen that Griezmann celebration?
How I would love to see the Portuguese wipe that smirk off his face but its not gonna happen, the arrogant French cannot lose tomorrow, they'll get a dodgy peno or something. :(
Think I'll put the telly on and see how the Wales v Germany third place match is going.

Wales and Germany are back home, no 3rd place playoff

Anyone seen my Opel Ireland Jersey? Need to get in the mood for the euros!

Predictions time: Spain to win it.
    England to do well.
Ireland out at the group stages.
Gomez (DE) to be the top scorer.

    Don't do the lottery.

Anybody not bothered with this final

I can't pick a team who I would actually like to win

I think he's getting a cut at all the people who keep thinking there is a 3rd place playoff even though there hasn't been one in the history of the European Championships yet for some reason people thought there would be one this year.

You beat them, then you take their stuff. I'm sure the Vikings would approve.

The final is almost an anti-climax
after wales, iceland and a decent Irish performance.

Is that what predictive text brings up for anti climax?

Haven't you seen that bloody Ronaldo celebration?

Griezmanns little dance annoys me but I'd rather see that than Ronaldo win anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,560 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

How about Greizmann to break his leg after 6 minutes, and Pogba to score a hat-trick resulting in Man Utd having to pay an additional £35 million for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,845 ✭✭✭timthumbni

Ronaldo is a cut above the rest no matter if people love or hate him.

The best European player by quite a way and only really eclipsed by the genius of that wee tax dodging Argie on a world basis.

I don't really care who wins the final tbh. After Norn iron were knocked out I would probably have preferred ze Germans to win but it wasn't to be.

No, I vowed never to support the French soccer team after the Henri incident and I stand by that despite how much Ronaldo and his celebration in particular makes me want to punch him in the face, so I'm supporting Portugal, much and all as it hurts me to say that.

I suppose there's no chance that they could both lose.
