Shower tray or tiles

I've an awkward space to put in a new shower and I'm thinking instead of a slimline shower tray, I might tile. It wouldn't be a wet room or flush walk in type of shower, the tiles would form a tray like the attached picture.

How are these usually achieved? It will be upstairs on a wooden floor base. What ways are their to seal and water proof a tiled shower floor? Is it a no-no to attempt tiled shower floor upstairs?

You buy a floor former which has the required falls designed into it and accepts the waste trap. Then you tile over the floor former. The floor former is about 20mm thick, so can remove the floor boards and use it instead.

Do you know where these can be purchased?

Or even a flat or 25mm tray?

I tiled my own showerfloor upstairs. Set down good quality 18mm marine ply, sealed it with a primer, put in a DPM, put in 4mm steel mesh and poured in my base. Left it go off initially and sprayed it with water to get the sloping right.
Was a pain in the stones of a job to get right (roughly 1200*800).

Used this system to complete the job.

Did something similar myself. Basically sloped the floor and then got a guy in to spray the floor and walls with fibreglass, only in the shower area. When it set it was like a waterproof shell. Then tile on it. Foolproof and will never leak. Has been used every day for 2 years now and still perfect

Heaton buckleys will do them. When ordering you'll be asked the size former and what waste trap you want (vinyl or tiles).

I agree ,this is the best job possible in my opinion, marmox boards or any other former boards still have to be sealed with a tanking kit, there is no better tanking kit than fiberglass

Heiton buckleys do not specialise in walk in showers, are more expensive than tile/plumbing merchant
