this one is almost 2 years old. on the old N4 (not N6 like the video says) between Enfield and Clonard.

Attempting to overtake on a solid while line: 0:47
    Overtakes into oncoming traffic: 1:55
    Overtakes into oncoming traffic: 2:15

Very familiar with that stretch of road. It can be madness at times. My aul lad was knocked off his motorbike along that stretch of road. Lucky to walk away.

between enfield and kilcock can be lethal. I travel to work on that road every day, one of the worst parts its the roundabout when you come off the motorway kilcock. Seen a few crashes over the years.

roundabout chaos caused by all those idiots entering the roundabout in front of traffic wishing to exit. the pugeot rightly or wrongly was trying to switch over 1 lane to exit the roundabout as it could be fair (for them) to assume the stopped traffic was continuing around the roundabout. Caused by everyone not giving way to those already on the roundabout.

all those cars just piling in from the entrance after yours sums up exactly how irish roundabouts work, I want to go there, my car will fit, perfect.

I live in Donaghmede and use this roundabout everyday, the problem is the traffic lights that they decided to put up just after the exit on 2 sides, don't know how there aren't more accidents there. That being said trying to cross the road before the traffic lights was a ropey at best.

thing is that the 2nd set of lights further down were always there so now you have 2 sets of lights blocking traffic back up onto that roundabout. a very long barrrier either side was the way to go and probably alot cheaper

At least the Guards are acknowledging the fact that lots of us have dash cams now.

When I was rear ended back in March, I mentioned the cameras to the Guard, and he was amazed, said he thought dash cams were only confined to crazy youtube videos from Russia.

Not a dash cam but thought it was worth a share

The lines there are so clear it would take me effort NOT to follow them.

No sure who is at fault here maybe a 50/50 the BMW overtook aproaching the crest of a hill but had broken white lines the cam car lost control and hit the wall. What do you think??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭savagethegoat

I guess the Yaris driver took evasive action and put a wheel on the grass. Perhaps he could have avoided it if he was more experienced, but the BMW overtaking caused this, it looked like a dangerous overtake to me

The BMW driver was on the wrong side of the road broken line or not and morally should take responsibility. Legally speaking I don't know how it works when the car at 'fault' does not actually make contact.

The road planners also have a lot to answer for for having a broken white line approaching a blind crest.

Looking at the video again I think they are actually hazard lines. Long white line with small break.

    BMW's fault I think.

If the oncoming car has to take any evasive action whatsoever then it's the overtaking driver's fault.

I would love to think I wouldn't have rolled if I was in the Yaris, but you can't overtake on a blind crest and hope the other driver has the skill to avoid an accident.

Lookin at it again the cam car only has about 3 secs to react once the BMW comes into view. It would be nice to see the road from the other direction looks like the end of a short straight and has a slight bend possibly hiding the crest. Should be a solid line too.

It is not uncommon to find someone guilty of something even if one did not do anything (especially if they were suppose to do it).

So no - you don't have to get involved to be found at fault.

Since when does a line alone allow to overtake? The responsibility of making sure it is safe lays on the overtaker.

Was this down towards Wexford by any chance? I was overtaken last week on the M11 by a wine Volvo estate that was going so fast I rang the Guards. Didn't get the reg.. He came up behind me while I was overtaking someone, I was doing 140ish. He flashed me almost immediately and I moved in, tore away from me. Easy doing 180-190 on a wet road..

That's good if they could prosecute/claim from the BMW driver. I've just seen it before with a car accident.

Ah now I never said it did. But the road should be marked correctly.
