    Not too sure

Would imagine the Imokilly team will be fairly strong. Handful of east cork JAHC games this weekend but nobody involved with Imokilly and i dont think there are any east cork teams involved in either of the intermediate championships this weekend.

Lets have a stab off the 21s team.
    Collins
    Gunning O'Connor O'Donoghue
    Coleman O'Leary Twomey
    Lee Cahalane
    O'Callaghan Kingston O'Driscoll
    Spillane O'Mahony Fitzbibbon

Twomey in the corner I'd guess, O'Callaghan inside forward. Not sure Dayne Lee has the industry for midfield. The older Cormack must have gone very poor if he can't make it.

Kieran Histon and Shane O'Brien are losses in the corner, both were very good at Minor level. Kevin O'Neill also a loss.

TBH barring a miracle I think we lose this by 5-6 points.

Rebel Og panels, only one from Blackrock on the hurling panels. Otherwise the big city clubs are well represented.

As an aside, I feel like its a mistake for the U-21s to play a sweeper (Fitzgibbon) at home and against Limerick, they might as well just go man to man.Think a few of the forwards don't have the necessary work-rate to play against extra defenders and they're picking a 'big' time that in theory should be competitive in the air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭DuffleBag

Coleman was the sweeper against Imokilly the other night. Dunno will they plunge fitzgibbon into that role. Far too dangerous a scorer

Is there any chance Michael Cahalane will play hurling again ?

Remember seeing him v us at u16 level - great talent.

Limerick in the qualifiers. Wont be easy but we should be able to beat them so another game under the belt and maybe increase the belief in the team going forward

will beat them at home alright but the next round could be a disaster with possibly Mayo or Donegal/Monaghan

I give us a decent chance in this game tonight. Not a bad team - have some concerns about a few positions in the backs but we pack a punch from midfield in. Some decent options off the bench too.
Limerick obviously will play with the confidence of AI champions but I certainly don't think they are world beaters.
Going to play a sweeper if rumours are to be believed. Not sure about merits of that if true.

Looks a decent panel, better than we've had in the last few years, but Limerick have to be favourites. The only caveat is I'm a stones throw away from Pairc Ui Rinn and the weather is apocalyptic. It could make the game a bit of a lottery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭DuffleBag

I for one am very excited to see some of the forwards we have on display tonight. Particularly Pa O'Callaghan. People have been championing him for some time now and he's clearly been the standout forward in our club championship, for whatever thats worth. Granted we have a few fellas who might become good players but none of them are close to playing with the Senior team. I'm not sure does that say more for the senior management than it does the players but thats a different story.

I was told during the league that Mark Coleman was playing outstanding stuff in training but only for the leaving he would've gotten game time. Likewise i'm looking forward to seeing him tonight also.

A strange game that Limerick were always on top but I counted 3 in first half and 3 more in second ( game still on as I type) where it seemed like there should be a cork free but a limerick one given. Strange reffing. One in the first half had the Cork player fouled but we were away with the advantage but it gets called back .We miss the free and Limerick player not booked.

Cork had chances but way too many wides. Even with a few strange decisions Limerick were the better team but I feel like it could have been much closer. We cant expect to win a game with so many wides

Yet another Cork wide as I type!

Kingston is a great player though at least!

very disappointing. Limerick well on top, could have won by 15+ if they too their points rather than a rake of wides. Played till the end but that may only allow the county board spin it as a hard luck story

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/hurling/no-cork-crisis-says-new-hurling-development-chief-407731.html

Am I being too cynical in thinking that newly-appointed national hurling development manager Martin Fogarty isn't going to be too worried about Cork hurling as a Kilkenny man? Anyone who has seen the Cork team play over the past few years and coupled with the lack of underage success could be in no doubt that there is a crisis in Cork hurling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭DuffleBag

Judging from that i'd say he thinks his job description is maybe improving hurling in counties like Wexford, Antrim, Westmeath etc and bringing the christy ring teams up to be able to compete in the Liam McCarthy.

As a kilkenny man he already wouldnt have much interest in improving Cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭spillcoe

Yeah - it does say he has specific responsibility for Antrim, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, and Westmeath but if that's the case then I would argue his job title should be more along the lines of regional hurling development manager as opposed to National.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,722 ✭✭✭nice_guy80

    15 hurling clubs in Westmeath

    100+ in Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭spillcoe

I have no problem with a development officer being appointed for the likes of Westmeath but my problem is that this person should not be designated a National Development Manager if the focus is on just 5 counties.

Cork with their population will always come. I'd be much more worried about wexford and offaly
