Audi Service History - Dealer Only?

I was told that the 2013 Audi I was looking at buying (fresh UK import) has a full main dealer service history, but there are no stamps and no physical service book to prove it.

Apparently the only way to get the history is to go to a main Audi dealer and request the history. Is this true?

If the seller was stupid enough not to obtain it then I suspect you'll find it hard now. It does put you in a decent negotiating position.

Very unusual for a uk car to not have a stamped service history.

Make sure you run a history check on the car too, could be flood damaged, wrote off etc and still have service history.

I ran a cartell check which came up clean. As did the motorcheck print out the dealer gave me. I've emailed audi uk with the reg to see if they can provide the service history.

He's offering a 24 month warranty and a really good price, so im probably just going to go for it regardless.

Doesn't Audi save the service history record on the key fob? As far as I know they don't do a paper record. I'm open to correction on this though.

Yeah that's what I was told - it's all on the key fob. How do I get at it before buying though?

You borrow the key fob for 10 mins, and go use a computer, ( in the dealers) , they should have offered to show you already..

You don't need the key. Any dealer should be able to access the digital service record via the VIN.

It is also worth noting that the system is not exclusive to Audi dealers, independent garages can also register to access this system and make entries in it, we have been doing so for several years now. Ditto for BMW and Mercedes.

The idea of having a centralised online service record is a very good one in theory, however in practice there are often gaps left where dealers haven't updated the digital record after servicing the car. The lack of a physical service book makes the problem worse. The solution seems simple; why not have both a service booklet and a digital record? Would be common sense really....
