Didi's comments after the game were fantastic. He didn't hold back berating English football and simply told it like it is.

'The English think the Premiership is a Lamborghini, in reality it's a Skoda.'

    Ouch!

We'll see Hodgson again soon, he'll be asked to be a pundit on ITV for Englands world cup qualifying campaign, guarantee it

Erm, giving the England Fans the explanation they deserve after one of the worst tournaments performances ever, yes even worse than WC 2014.
The only thing the England fans deserve is not fit to be printed. They disgraced themselves again at this tournament.

I think it's overstated how much England's expectation levels are pumped up before tournaments. It isn't really since the days of Sven that they've said that they expect to win things in total earnestness.

Losing to Croatia back in 07 and not making it to the Euros in 08 was a bit of a reducer that finally allowed reality to meet expectations somewhat. They haven't been as bullish since. I don't think Capello was genuinely expected to win World Cup 2010 and I remember that expectations were at an all time low in the build up to 2012. The World Cup campaign in 14 was a bit of a shocker but the fact that Hodgson kept his job afterwards should give you an indiction about how relative failure managing England wasn't taken as utterly unthinkable any more. And in the lead up to this tournament I didn't think the media consensus was that they were going to go on and win it.

I think the media has taken the defeat fairly well really. It is a crazy result. There will always be some crazy headlines, naturally enough, but I don't think they've been overly hysterical and there has been plenty of praise and admiration for Iceland.

They took it well I thought. Bitterly disappointed of course but full of kind sentiments towards Iceland.

A minority went to cause trouble, what about the other 1000's who went to just follow their team for a few weeks, and the millions who watched from home?

Its a game. Its supposed to be played for enjoyment. Its not in the least bit serious. It doesn't matter at all. I am always amazed how utterly miserable and serious looking the RTE pundits are. Jaysus, cracka feckin smile for once in your life Giles, Brady and Dunphy.

Poor England players taking that **** from their commentators and pundits. I hope they secretly don't give a **** - I know I wouldn't. Its a game - how unintelligent do you have to be to take it seriously.

its their job - nobody else gets paid. Its entertainment for everyone else. You'd swear it was important.

Lots of people are with Bill when he said
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that"

I'd be pretty pissed if I turned up to hospideal In emergency situation and doctors were just strolling about putting in no effort to do their jobs

Tbh if an amateur Gaa club team played like that....their would be absolute war in the dressing room after it....no mind general disinterest among the players

Medicine is important. Football is a game. GAA is also taken far too seriously - fighting on the pitch etc.

Whilst I was vocal about finding a lot of the 'Irish fans are the soundest!' coverage nauseating, at least you'll never hear Irish fans booing their own team.

Meh...if your not into pride/passion who am I to judge

Though I do hope Iceland beat france

Pride and passion in what? Its only a game. If a one bunch of 11 players play better than another bunch of 11 players - what have you go to be proud about?

If you played in the match then certainly be proud by all means. If you just watched the game you have absolutely zero to be proud about.

This is where the whole thing is a bit delusional. Danny Baker jumping up and down and calling the players "You ****ing awful craven humiliating disgrace. Go on you ****ers pick up your PL wages you cheap ****s. You worms. **** you".

    What an idiot.

You weren't watching Munster Rugby this year then?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,372 ✭✭✭LorMal

Munster Rugby issued a statement this afternoon calling for supporters to “respect” players and opposition at all times during games at Thomond Park.

The announcement comes in the wake of Munster’s 31-19 loss to Leicester at the weekend, where fans booed certain players, with outhalf Ian Keatley in particular coming under fire.

Keatley’s performances at fly-half have been a major talking point for some time now and Saturday’s loss against Leicester proved to be the tipping point as many fans voiced their frustration with 28-year-old and his teammates.

And yet can England player say they have any pride in what they did on the pitch going through the motions

You know as well as I do that they tried their best. They were nervous.
They weren't not bothered. I imagine it must be very stressful playing for England - if you lose you are vilified, if you win it was only to be expected.

They looked haunted at the end.

If that's trying their best....they have no place at the euros tbh

A amateur LOI team would put in better effort tbh

It's great to see them out :D:D

We have low expectations . If we do well, we are delighted. If we play rubbish, we are not really surprised.
Irish people are not some special angels - most people are the same around the world.
    Only morons boo sportspeople.
