I was talking to a French fella today who said they'd murder us on Sun.

    Scary.

Then we wouldn't have a team to field on Sunday :p

We could have beaten Italy 2-0 or 3-1 yesterday. We were all over them.

France are a different kettle of fish and will score against our defence.

We were wide open for the counter attack last night, Italy's second team just weren't good enough or quick enough to take advantage of it.

Play against France like we did last night and we'd be lucky to lose by only 3 or 4 goals. We'll sit back, soak it up and hope for a counter attack.

Hopefully we can pull it off. I'll hopefully be in town for the match and cannot wait!

is there going to be a big screen in dublin city centre??

That's not unfair, in fact that's exactly like what I'm suggesting - teams that have done well get rewarded for how good they're doing which gives them incentive to keep at it. The only potentially unfair thing about that was because it wasn't announced until later so arguably FIFA decided when they saw what the seeds would be.

But that's exactly what was unfair. If you change the rules of the competition in the middle of the competition, in order to favour the bigger teams, then that is clearly unfair, and in fact I would argue it's corrupt, clearly moving the goalposts for financial reasons.

Bad idea. As unfortunately we can't seem to control ourselves at home.
It might only be a few, but you can guarantee that there will be trouble.

My wild guess to win today

    Poland
Northern Ireland (don't mind if Wales win either)
    Croatia

It'll be grand. It's planned as an alcohol-free family-friendly event and it's an early game. I'm sure there'll be a decent Garda presence to turf out any visible drunks. Of course, I'm sure some people will sneak hip flasks but I don't foresee many problems. For anyone who wants to drink, there'll be any number of pubs showing the game.

My pal is leaving for Dublin airport in about an hours time. Jammy Baxtard scored two tickets for the win over France.
    Fair play to him.

My Euro 2016 betting pot is taking a bit of a battering. Have not been up since day one. Am hoping my accum to predict the 8 qualifiers for the qtr finals will bring it back to slightly nearer its opening balance.

Match 1 looking good so far.

    Me at the start of the second period of extra time for every knock out game I've ever watched;

    Please don't score, please don't score, please don't score, Please don't score, please don't score, please don't score,Please don't score, please don't score, please don't score,Please don't score, please don't score, please don't score,Please don't score, please don't score, please don't score,

When you've watched a game this long, all you want is penalties

While I enjoy penos and they are exciting, it's a really **** way to decide a match.

    It is, absolutely,

But when you have feck all interest in the outcome, it's very enjoyable.

Fair play to the Swiss fans for throwing their bottles at the Polish players celebrating in front of them (It being the Swiss that won the toss and chose that end).

I'm also not disappointed to see the Swiss go home. (2004 & 2006).

What other way should the match be decided?

Unless you play till there is a goal which could become farcical and boring due to the sheer number of players going down with cramp then there is no other better way.

I don't know, there likely is no better way, that doesn't mean it's not a **** way of deciding it.

Yeah, I felt Switzerland deserved the win slightly more. And what a goal!

Great to hear the Poles in the apartment directly beneath me go daft though. :)
