You should watch the video of the iceland commentary over the Brady goal :)

I nearly love Iceland now as much as Ireland after their heroics.

I'm still not finished watching it with the Titanic song over it yet!

I have a bad feeling that I'm gonna wake up and find it was all a dream. Just surreal.

...a welcoming party in the Phoenix Park for the Irish team - hosted by Kathryn Thomas or some other RTE 'superstar' - when they get beat by France on Sunday?

I don't think I could live in Ireland anymore after that. I still have nightmares over the 2002 one. "and now, the Three Amigos!"

What if someone suggests an open top bus driving down O'Connell st?

How bout Joe hosting the party ?
Would a decade of the rosary and a few ham sambos do ?

No, I think murder is illegal.

We have to remember to criticise any players who dont turn up to the open top bus tour around Dublin.
Cheek of them not been there and spending time with their families on holiday...

We have such a losers attitude here. Beat a second string Italian who didn't want to know, and we're organising welcome party.

I suppose we should award the fans something too. Put on a great pretence show away, and fights on every street at home.

Someone book a flight and start cleaning the streets to out do the idiots.

If there is going to be a bus parade there better be a player on the top holding a European 2016 trophy...

It should be in College Green, presented by Des Cahill and Joe Duffy, with Jedward 'interviewing' members of the public.

Pissing rain and in the middle of the evening rush.

Stupid soccer, when is it over.

Medals are to be awarded by little Michael to all the fans who managed to stay out of a French police cell, imagine grown adults could actually manage to not get into trouble fuelled by twenty four hours drinking.

Thank God they are over there watching the matches live and not running riot in Dublin City Centre.

I'm still watching this. and it's still making me cry. every time.

    last night. this morning. now.

I'm not just writing that I'm crying as a figure of speech. I'm actually crying. crying tears of joy.

I'll watch it again in an hour or 2, and I know I'll cry again.

This piece of audio recording needs to be kept & cherished for ever and ever. It wouldn't be out of place next to the Mona Lisa or David. It is Beautiful. It is Art. It is Joy.

    I'm 34. I'm still crying.
    Here he is

In fairness, isn't it highly unfair to other teams when one team is literally putting out their B-team because they're already through?

Why don't they have the best performing 1st place team playing the worst performing 3rd placed team that still got through? That would make it highly advantageous for a team like Italy to win the match instead of completely useless.

Yeah it is unfair. It was also unfair when we got a to a playoff in the qualifiers a few years ago and then they changed the rules in the middle of the competition to seed those matches to keep the big teams apart, and it was unfair when Thierry Henry got a goal by handling the ball twice that was still allowed.

So, you know, swings and roundabouts...

It was some craic all right. But I would not describe people celebrating on the streets as 'running riot'. Thats a bit bitter!

Because God forbid Italy might want to rest key players for you know, the really big game they have in a few days.

And besides, countries are entitled to bring a squad of 23 players. Any 11 of which are entitled to start a football game at the competition.

    What's unfair about that?

That Italian team play for some of the greatest and most successful teams in the world I believe. Teams like Juventus and AC Milan.

That's not unfair, in fact that's exactly like what I'm suggesting - teams that have done well get rewarded for how good they're doing which gives them incentive to keep at it. The only potentially unfair thing about that was because it wasn't announced until later so arguably FIFA decided when they saw what the seeds would be. Ranking teams based on previous performance and keeping the best performing teams apart is just common sense, like how the first teams in the group will be playing a 2nd or 3rd placed team.
and it was unfair when Thierry Henry got a goal by handling the ball twice that was still allowed.

Yeah that's quite true. But at least on a theoretical level, there were reasons why it happened (human error).

I am not saying Italy did something wrong. You missed the entire point of my post.

Some of Italy's A-team had yellow cards so they were rested in case they picked up a suspension (or injury) in a game that didn't matter since they had already won the group.

It was highly unfair that Ireland didn't get a penalty when McClean was bundled to the ground in front of the ref after getting an elbow in the back, and when Long was kicked in the head in the Belgium game.

Your point about the 1st place team playing the worst performing 3rd placed team that still got through is fine, if all of the groups are of equal quality, and if there is a definitive way of working this out, but there isn't. Use all the coefficients and formulae you want but people will still argue that another way is better.

Cards don't carry out of the groups.

Edit; actually that's irrelevant to what you're saying sorry.

What on earth are the Irish supporters trying to do with this car (1. 7 million views)?

    Using translate:
As shown in the video article header line on Tuesday, a group of fans broke the roof of a car. Reaction of the troops : slip money into the slots on the door and finally repair the while tapping.

Love how the article starts, though...
They win hands down as the best supporters of Euro 2016 and at this rate , they will eventually find a cure against cancer by the end of the competition.

    :pac:

At the moment it's done completely randomly as far as I'm aware. So with zero incentive for Italy to do any good at all. Again I'm not saying Italy did anything wrong, it's hard to fault a team for sticking to the rules and maximizing their chances for the competition. This way would give Italy incentive to get 7 or 9 points.
