As many as 50 people have been wounded in a shooting at a cinema complex in Germany, according to local media reports.

An armed man has reportedly barricaded himself inside the complex, located in the town of Viernheim in western Germany.

Viernheim - Greater Alarm in a movie theater in South Hesse - the SEC has arrested the amok shooters!

According to "Darmstädter Echo" is said to have been taken hostage the man. The police this far unconfirmed.

Shortly after 15:00 enters a gunman the Kinopolis at Rhein-Neckar-Zentrum. He is disguised, has a gun in his hand, wearing a cartridge belt around his shoulder. He shoots with an alarm gun once into the air.

Screaming flee dozens of visitors from the cinema. Then the weapons man entrenched.

Police triggers major alarm. SEK Elite policemen from Frankfurt lawn in convoy on the A5 to the south. Other SEC teams fly in helicopters to Viernheim.

25 people were injured by tear gas.

Not as serious as reported originally. The gun was a replica and the injured people are injured from the tear gas used by the police. The guy has been arrested. No casualties or serious injuries reported. Thanks for that.

To be fair, what likely happened was someone reported a shot being fired, injuries resulting from the cops, and just took half the story from one, half the story from the other, and made it "50 injured in shooting".

It's technically accurate, but sensationalist.

Probably translation issues. "Wounded" coming from whatever the German for "injured" is.

Sounds like if there had been a good guy with a gun there then disaster could've been averted. Or this nut may have been able to get his hands on a proper gun. Either way, more easy access to guns would definitely have made this situation better.

I had a look on twitter... some guy tweeted a "quote" that "many dead and seriously wounded". Seriously like, adding fuel to a fire. I'm seeing reports now that the gun was a replica and the "wounded" were from tear gas only. Obviously terrifying if you were there and for families trying to cut to the truth but this could have been a much more serious incident.

It would have made it worse, because the person would have had access to an actual gun and not a replica and we really would be hearing reports of "40 dead!"
