    Hello,
Zero idea about this, but today I went to get a new pair of glasses, I was asked multiple times about medical card and PSRI. I do not have a medical card, so I answered no to both. Of course when I got back home I though about it, and of course I pay my PSRI on my pay slip each month.

Do I have some entitlement given that I pay PSRI at the moment and am in employment? I know my question is a bit fuzzy on detail, but like I said I'm not exactly sure what my question is, just asking for advice.

The government did away with it, but brought it back recently. I think you need to have a period of time paying PRSI before you can claim, but not 100% sure on that.

    Details here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/disability_and_illness/treatment_benefit_scheme.html

From my quick reading you need to have paid prsi in 2014 to benefit now.

i've a similar question to the OP. Can a person claim on frames/lenses on top of the eye test?

Taken from the Citizens Information webpage

    "Optical Benefit
The Treatment Benefit Scheme entitles you to a free eyesight test. However, sight tests for VDUs, driving licences, etc., are not covered under the scheme. The examination is provided by opticians/optometrists who have a contract with the Department of Social Protection.

If you need contact lenses on medical grounds, the Department will pay half the cost up to a maximum of €500 provided you have a doctor's recommendation. This applies to a small number of eye conditions that make wearing glasses impossible. Disposable lenses are not covered under the scheme. Contact lenses are not available on purely optical or cosmetic grounds."

i take from this that a person is only entitled to claim a free eye test.

A family member told me also that i could make a CPSU claim, but is this not a member only organisation?

    any advice greatly appreciated.

These aren't really tax questions - would you guys be better asking in State Benefits?
