    Hi myself and my partner are getting a car soon , he doesn't have a license yet but he wants to buy a car so I can drive it , it will be under his name on the log book , will it be ok for me to get insured on it even though it's his car

    If you are married you have an insurable interest in the car even though it's in your partner's name so it will be fine. I'm not sure how that works if you are not married but I presume once you live together long enough it also counts?

    We 've been living together the last four years , I just didn't know if it was possible to get insured under someone else's car

    It will be a lot cheaper to have the log book in your name and you as main driver with him as a second driver.

    Strictly speaking you can get insurance on the vehicle in your name, however the 3rd party liability will only cover you while you use the vehicle. If the vehicle is parked in a public place, no cover is in effect and he will be breaking the law.

    The online quote engines all assume that you're the car owner, so you'd need to ring them up specifically to outline your circumstances.

    Some may refuse to quote.

    The two easiest things to do are;

    1. Get him insured on the vehicle with you as a named driver
    2. Put the car in your name and get insured on it (this is the way cheaper option).
