Usually no. I'm already paying a delivery charge 99% of the time.

A poll for this thread would be nice.

I am not tipping anyone though for adding it to the thread.

We also need to distinguish between tipping the pizza delivery boy on his clapped out Vespa scooter, with tripping the Currys van driver who has just delivered your new home appliance in a brand new Currys Transit van.

We used to tip Mr binman back in the day (before wheelie bins), and we still give the postman a tip @Christmas, but in the modern world it seems a little crazy to be tipping delivery men :o

No. Tips are for going beyond the service asked for, being useful. If the taxi driver fetches your bags, they get a tip. The delivery guy would have to set my table or be driving on a bike/walking through some sh*tty weather to get a tip.

Above and beyond. Otherwise you give the boss an excuse not to pay him properly, like we see in the States.

As a tipped employee in the US, tips don;t subsidise wages, they subsidize the prices. Why is eating out cheqp in the US? Because tips.

If you order regularly from a place......yes

They are alone with your food. You want them to like you.

Been to America several times and have never found eating out cheap there.

Are you also supposed to tip the dopey looking "young wan" that always seem to be riding shotgun, or does she get her "tips" elsewhere?

Only if she is also providing you with a service, I assume.

I usually pay by card when ordering food but if I have a bit of spare change lying around i'd give it to the driver.

I do in restaurants, but I'm pretty against tipping culture in general. Companies should be paying their staff a living wage, it shouldn't be the resonsilbility of customers to determine how much a waiter takes home.

I mean I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's ****ed up. That ain't my fault. It would appear to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government ****s in the ass on a regular basis. If you show me a piece of paper that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And this non-college bull**** you're givin' me, I got two words for that: learn to ****in' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big ****in' surprise.

If I can drop 20 odd euro on food and I'm too lazy to get off my fat ass and go and get it myself, then the least I can do is give the driver a couple of euro.

Sometimes, depends on their overall demeanor.

Yes most of the time. But if they are being idiots and handing me one coin back at a time then i'll stand there and wait for all my change.

But you already do that with the delivery charge.

Why don't people do the same with supermarket on line deliveries?

Well no, and this is the reason. Many takeaways have a minum price level for them to make deliveries, a number of places this is around €10, so normally I have to order few extra things to make up the price, and then theres like another 2 euro thrown in for the actual delivery charge itself. I also find tipping condescending.

    Dominos don't charge for delivery

No they get enough orders out of me.

Presuming you're talking about food delivery? If they come to my door, yes, about €2, and up to €4, depending

If you're talking about parcel deliveries, then no. I'm not sure really what the difference is when I think of it. I suppose because you're not usually giving a parcel delivery guy cash already, and someone's probably paid a hefty delivery fee to start with.

I tip a euro or two unless i simply dont have cash on me at all and have ordered online and paid by card.

The difference between a fast food delivery drivery and a parcel/post delivery, is that the former is working unsocial hours, usually not employed and is paying for his own petrol/diesel to make deliveries. The later is usually working regular morning/day hours, employed and has a fuel card, or a full tank.

Always tip a delivery driver but would try my best not to tip a taxi man as I feel they are ripping me off as it is.

For some reason I tip the food delivery guy but never an amazon/online delivery guy. Ive never thought about this or why I do it though but I think its more common

Actually I think its because you're handling money and paying on the spot for the pizza but the amazon delivery is prepaid online

I already pay for delivery which I assume he gets. Not paying twice!

Don't do it normally but if it is Christmas then anything from 70c-€1

It's hardly subsidised when the customer is expected to pay for the food and the tips.

If there is a delivery charge then no tip, if it's free delivery then normally I'll tip €2. Noticeable trend in the amount of places that are bringing in delivery charges now.

Also funny looking at the "companies responsibility to pay wages". Yeah it sure is. I know from friends who did some work for local chippers or chinese places, there is no min wage. They get an allowance for fuel, get some food at the end of the nights, and tips as theirs. The more established franchises pay wages, but most of the local places don't, or have unorthodox arrangements. And as someone mentioned its extra income or a job needed to make ends meat, get through college w/e. So most of it is cash in hand for local/independent places.

I love that attitude of "ugh the company should pay them min wage". The Celtic Tiger has a lot to answer for in this country for the new culture and attitude.

Basically your a tight **** if you don't tip a delivery driver, if there isn't an included charge beforehand. So lets cut the ****.

That's I guess where your assumption is wrong.

For established franchises drivers get a min wage and a small benefit package like perhaps a feed at the end of the shift, maybe some fuel allowance.

For most independent places drivers operate on tips, with maybe some food and then fuel allowance. Some of course will get a wage or a fixed rate a night.

I always tip my local places, and I don't think it's a coincidence my food arrives piping hot.

Never. I don't get tipped in my job.

I tip my delivery driver and I'm pretty sure he always brings me my food first. When he takes out my bag you can always see that there's at least another bag belonging to some other loser who probably doesn't tip sitting in there going cold.
