Where are all the Irish fresh carrots?

Maybe I should be posting this in Consumer Affairs but....

I failed to find Irish carrots in Lildi and Tesco during the past week. Plenty of carrots from France, Spain Italy and even Israel but none locally-grown. I failed again to find any yesterday in my local farmers' market.

So what's the issue? Supermarkets controlling the access to consumers? cheaper imports? fewer Irish producers?
Also puzzling is that a couple of months ago I'm fairly sure there were lots of Irish carrots on the shelves.
