Supposedly this was done by some sections of Croat support as a 'protest' against how the Croatian football federation and league is being run. Seeing a few tweets from a Balkans political commentator saying this was planned for weeks.
Article on the state of Croatian football here http://outsideoftheboot.com/2015/10/16/the-sad-state-of-croatian-football/

planned or not, you don't bring what are essentially explosives into a football ground in a country on high alert for terrorist attacks.

Boot them out. the Croat FA will soon be more careful about to whom they let buy tickets for games like this.

I know, its a total disgrace, but if the word was out that something like this was being planned from sections of Croatian fans, you'd think security would be extra vigilant in searching these guys coming into the ground. Security is looking like an absolute joke so far in this

It really is very worrying. If those lads can get flares and fireworks in someone could easily bring in a backpack full of explosives. They're bags obviously weren't searched.

I'd say they employed the same tactic my brother used at Homelands 2 to get cans of Linden Village into Mosney all those years ago (as they didn't sell cider at Homelands 1), sellotaped to his legs & torso while wearing a baggy commando outfit (and subsequently discovered that they actually did sell cider at Homelands 2).

Hopefully we get a good match for Spain v Turkey after all that. Adruiz, the man I've my money on for top goalscorer is once again on the bench. I'd want to give up this tournament gambling lark!

Yeah they'd a disaster 2 years ago and regardless of how this campaign goes Spain are one classy outfit. Both in character and ability. Love watching them.

That could be one of a hundred things, a gun case I would say is highly unlikely.

What could it be other than a gun case, though?

It has quite a distinct shape - http://www.livens.co.uk/index.asp?selection=detailed&uid=2057&cg=117&mc=1082&cct=&sc=1491

And the guy holding it looks like security

Tbh I'd be surprised if teams / matches didn't have some kind of armed detail assigned to them. Was just curious about the picture

Off to The Yacht in Clontarf tomorrow for 1 O Clock for lunch and hopefully get a decent seat. Food and pints.
Where'll you be catching the game?

My fella and his possé are going to be in the pub at 11am on the dot. Murray's on O'Connell Street.

We went there on Monday. I got there for 12:50pm and got the last good table. We though we might have been jumping the gun a bit but 15 minutes later and they would have been all gone. Murray's are opening their doors at 8am and I bet there'll be people in nearly that early.

The Hanger just off Dame St/Suffolk St was really good on Monday but you need to be early for seats. Savage atmosphere!

Is there anywhere in Lahinch to watch? Do they allow soccerball matches to be watched?

Head up the road to Doolin and go to O'Connors pub. When Ireland wins you'll be swimming in Guinness and oysters for the night.

Is there anywhere that won't try to drown me in a vile, foul-smelling liquid?

Nervous and pessimistic, like I am before every half important football game.
