In lidl there now great offers on fruit, raspberries 99cent, kiwi pack 69c,pears 99c, plums 69cent, oranges 99c, strawberries 1.99, peaches 1.79. No excuse for not buying fruit for kids at those prices.

The other side of the coin.... I wonder how their producers are managing with those prices....

I haven't seen intervention looking after fruit producers lately, those prices are the equivalent of 12c/ltr for milk.......it wouldn't buy the punnets.
They're using it as a loss leader and maybe paying their suppliers properly but the private sellers can't compete with that messing

This goes back to the arguement we had here years ago, The shopper wants to buy and support our native food growers but can the shopper afford to do this?

I don't even think the average consumer actively wants to support Irish farmers... from what I can see 99% of food is bought on its convenience to prepare and price.

considering how much meat and fish is marketed as Irish (even if its not) there must be a demand for it, problem is cost will always be the first consideration especially as the median income declines. So if Irish is not the cheapest it won't sell

That's why we're only getting commodity prices outside ireland, it has to be 10 or 20% cheaper than the local stuff. french farmers were getting 20% more for their lamb than irish farmers any time i was in france

Was talking to a farmers wife last week, she was saying how much the meat costs in the local butchers. I explained aldi and lidl to angus/hereford beef and its irish and nice. She couldnt believe that those shops sold anything Irish.

Fifteen working days is the contract Mulinahone have. You will have tags in about two and a half weeks after the order clears.
    whelan2 wrote: »
If you are only ordering the one tag it shouldn't take long. Also wait until you get the tag as the check digit might change. It doesn't always go in order

I've seen me having to wait up to 4 weeks before, but I ordered on line last Monday week & had them Monday gone by.
    Really impressed
Tag arrived in the post today and I have just registered him. Thanks everyone for the advise.
I cannot remember who we used last year to test the BVD sample. Is there a list of labs that I can look up.

Just when you mention it, the last honey I bought was from Longford, a nice filling station on the Arva-Longford road, had local honey & jam for sale.
Was good stuff & nice to see local produce being sold, was back since but sadly no honey
Was it Corrigans. I know there are some bee keepers in that general area - Moyne/Aughnacliffe.

Lovely night here although a bit colder than some of the previous ones.
If ya look at the moon the bright planet bottom right from it is mars. To the bottom left (and a lot duller) is Saturn. Should be visable for next 4 or 5 days....well nights :)

I got a flat tire on the way back from Drumshanbo mart and my chips got cold while I was changing it. First world problems :(
Couldn't find the lever for the jack either so I had to make do with a piece of rebar, I bet the lever is doing something stupid like propping a shed window open!!

Maybe this is a silly question but why is a young academic lady such as yourself carrying a bit of rebar with them ?
Neither of my sister's can change a tyre and one of them even gets myself or the father to fill her car with petrol in case she uses the wrong pump !
