    Hi,

I need to make a bootable usb stick at work, and someone purchased kingston datatraveler vault privacy usb sticks.

These seem to have some encryption software baked in.

has anyone been able to remove this?

I have tried booting gparted, and that cannot see the drive.

I am only able to see a 16mb readonly drive at /dev/sr1
I can't seem to blow this away with cfdisk, even running as root.

From the FAQ on their website ...
Can this secure USB flash drive be formatted to work as a standard USB drive or the security be disabled to remove the password requirement?

This drive is designed to be 100% encrypted. The security is built into the drive and cannot be removed or disabled.

Looks like the encryption is implemented in hardware.

Send it back and get an ordinary one.
