It's funny, I have spent so much of the past 8-9 months saying that by then I might be pregnant, or if I'm pregnant then... and all of those things/events have passed and I'm still not. I do think it will come to us all, in our own ways and possibly for some of us with more effort than others but we will get there and we'll be all the stronger for it

I can totally relate to this. I have two weddings coming up at the end of the summer and refuse to buy anything to wear on the basis that I'm hoping I'll be pregnant by then!!

Hi there I have been following this post since the beginning but never posted yet. I can't help but feel the need to share my story as I feel maybe it will help someone as others helped me. I was on the combined pill for 8 straight years and came off it two years before ttc. I'm a nurse and a midwife and a switch flicked in my head saying 'try to detox your body before ttc'. We started in January and I had a perfect 28 day cycle and did temping and knew my fertility signs to a T! but of course I was stilling getting those BFNs every month. I decided to be very proactive and felt my body needed a balance. I tried homeopathy having never done it before and she gave me a remedy to detox my body from the pill and help with the horrendous Pms. I was pregnant the next month...the one month we half heartily tried due to shift work, frustration and travelling. I have gone back to her this week at 8weeks pregnant and she told me the remedy she gave me was folliculinum. It's for infertility. I have since spoken to others who got this and it worked. I don't want to give false hope but I do want to express that I am a health care professional and sometimes...the doctors don't know everything!! I fully believe that you will get pregnant when it is meant for you but I also believe we can give ourselves a helping hand. If I had known what the pill would do to my body I would never of taken it but the Gp hands them out like smarties. So that's it I wish all of ye a speedy bfp and I still follow this page to see how ye are doing. X.... Sorry for terribly long post.

I actually don't know the dose she just gave me the remedy..it was three salts in 24hrs and that was it! I'm sure any good homeopathist will do the same if they feel it will work for you :)

    Hi guys/girls

I hope you don't mind me joining. Just started ttc this month. I was 15 years on the pill. I stopped taking it in January. Period returned 28 days later and has arrived 28/29 days since. It's only 2-3 days though so I don't think that's good. This is going to be out first month giving it a lash. 1st anniversary this month too. I'm 33 and hubbie is 29.

    Haven't a clue what I'm doing

Hi smiler. I could have written your post. First month ttc after coming off pill in Feb after nearly 15 years on it, although having regular periods, mine are also only lasting 2-3 days max.

I'm the same age as you too.
Best of luck to you both

I've been following this thread for a while and thought I'd share the stuff I did the month I successfully conceived on the odd chance it might help anybody.

We started trying a month before my 39th birthday and it took us six months for the BFP. I went to the GP after three months trying and got my day 3 and 21 bloods done. I also went to a fertility clinic to get my AMH checked. All came back normal except for a mildly raised prolactin which could have been a one off. I was told not to worry about it for now but it would be investigated further if we still had no luck after six months. So I didn't have any known fertility issues.

I was totally stressed out in month five as it was the last possible time I could get pregnant and give birth before my 40th birthday. There were also other personal things going on. Then myself and the OH were going to be apart for a few days around ovulation time. There was a tiny window for doing the deed and unfortunately I stressed him out so much that he couldn't reach the finish line.

Due to my age month six would have been the last time trying before going for a full fertility check for both of us. So I decided to take a different attitude during month six and just relax. At this stage I had accepted that if we were successful that I would be giving birth in my 40s and it wasn't really that big a deal. So these are the different things I did in month six.

    1. Took Evening Primrose Oil for first 14 days of cycle (not supposed to be taken during the second half of the cycle)
    2. Took Zita West Vitafem and Vital DHA (very pricey compared to Pregnacare Conception but saved on ovulation sticks)
    3. Used Preseed around ovulation time
    4. Abandoned ovulation sticks as they were only stressing me out as I didn't get a positive every month. In fact the month I didn't get a positive my day 21 bloods did indicate ovulation. My heart used to just sink a little every time I saw that little empty circle
    5. Listened to Ovulation Enhancement from the Aculife website every night around ovulation time
    6. Listened to Implantation Support from the Aculife website around implantation time (guessed when this was)
    7. Visualised myself telling my OH that I was pregnant and imagining myself with a baby

I have no idea if any of these things actually worked or if it would have happened anyway. At the very least I relaxed a bit which was good for my overall well-being.

Went to my GP this morning and she took another set of bloods. She did my bloods initially in January and she said they all came back fine, including thyroid, as this can sometimes be problematic if trying to conceive. She's going to test hormones this time round.
She basically just reassured me and said that it really is a minority of people who conceive in the first six months of trying but yet they're the ones you seem to hear about!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,514 ✭✭✭bee06

Or the ones who weren't even trying!

When you get the results back get the actual results from her as well rather than taking her word for it. My GP said everything was "normal" when my LSH and FSH were indicators of PCOS and my AMH was 164 which the highest my consultant had ever seen ... Definitely not normal!

Get a copy of the results. 'Normal' levels are different to fertility normal.
But she's not wrong constantly hearing of honeymoon baby surprises and others who ttc one month and a baby.

I feel like the GP's seem to make very light of it really and we definitely hear so many stories of people getting the bfp well within the 6 months, or like bee said, those we were not even trying!

That's lovely congrats, I really appreciate your note that you have no idea if these things worked but the lovely outcome is the main thing. Sometimes I feel I'm doing everything right and not enough right all at the same time which adds to the pressure.

Lost all interest in this Ttc lark this month tbh. Can't be bothered with sex, really begrudged paying 28euro for preseed and just generally cannot be arsed. Next month we will be a year at it and it's like I've just hit a wall. Gonna try book my first acupuncture for Saturday in the hope it will lift my mood if nothing else!

I hear you, I'm not far behind you in terms of months ttc and didn't have a lot of timed sex this month either, it can be draining and no matter how hard you try, it does become more about need than passion. You're dead right to book in for acupuncture, looking forward to hearing how you get one. Feeling like I should invest too even for stress and well-being. Hang in there.

Thanks Hun, I'll keep ya posted on the accupuncture! X

So it's now 23 DPO and still no sign of my period, and plenty of BFNs. And all bar one of my temps have been way above the cover line (had what I thought had been an implantation dip) and Fertility Friend keeps telling me to test because "you may be pregnant!" No, I'm just being trolled by my reproductive organs.

What a lovely way to spend your fertile time! We've been using it for about 4 months. I got in on inhealth and with delivery costs about 30, so very expensive but supposedly safer than lube so willing to invest

Thanks! It was a great way to spend it so relaxing and dtd every second day so perfect! Picked up 3 pre-seeds so hopefully that will give us a little boost! Good to hear feedback on it! How are you getting on? How is everyone feeling?

Sorry to hear your out. I know what you mean it's like you know your not, but one part of you is going through all the what ifs.

I just Got a text message from the Clinic today to say bloods and hormones are normal. Should I phone the clinic and ask for a print out of the results to be sent to me or what's the best way to go about it ?

Yeah, ask them for a paper copy of the results.
