Rimfire bullets that never took off

Just looking there at the Remington 5mm rimfire. According to Wikipedia it has nearly the same velocity as the 17HMR with nearly double the energy at all ranges. Yet it is not at all a popular bullet.

17WSM doesn't seem to have taken off at all either.

    I wonder why?

A lot to do with ammo availability? For example would anyone buy a 243 in WSM or even WSSM in this country?

But even in the US where these rounds are manufactured, they still don't seem to be that popular.
