Why not copy a club in Brixton and call it Mass. Where you going? We're going to mass? I had a laugh anyway.....ah dear

Although it's sort of a relevant name in their case coz it's in a huge converted church.....hmmm.

ripping of popular telivision trends is a popular theme these days for e.g salads in the city, phoenix perk ect.although i did quite like the sonic room.
I would like to see more bands in nightclubs and not at tridiculous hours i.e. between 9 and 11 putthe djs on first then the bands that would kick a lot of ass,ye never know when all the other gigs are over people ight come to you for more.happy decorations as opposed to gloomy room, high ceilings are always nice (t.p smyths)
    thaz it really.

    maybe partying would help?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭renagade*

how about "ciunas" as in irish for "quiteness" . I think that would be really cool and original not to mention funny since its gonna be a rocking venue

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 178 ✭✭palmic

thanks for all the names.,keep them coming send me all your address so i can send you invites to the opening night ,palmic@oceanfree.net,the special guest band on the night are a certain 3 piece who sold a million of their last album ,its a must see i wanna have real music fans at the opening instead of the usual music industry types who come down for the free bar and are never seen again...thanks mick

You would get all these trendys turning up thinking it was some top euro club with a fancy name and they wouldnt get the joke!!

now thats a good plan, you can't name something important without consulting JEFF!:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 248 ✭✭Achille

hmm, just rip off some name from the Simpsons, thats what all the cool kids do. if you watch a few episodes, im sure you'll see a bar or club with a good name.

calling it Moe's tavern would draw a crowd.

or anything to do with Zeppelin!!!

    Houses of the Holy, haha.

    What about 'No name'

or 'double U' as in 'W'

Imagine the fun directory enquiries would have.

Punter.....'Im lookin for a place called 'double u'

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭Saint-dotsie

How about "Generic Indie Club No.7"

or maybe "Dischord" (now that involved some thinking, with the whole play on words)

Btw good ideas for the club - cheap drink now and again, get DJs that play music the punters want to hear not what they think we want to hear, and have the bands on late (i enjoy music more while intoxicated)

i think 'cellar door' is a pretty good name. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,105 ✭✭✭Tyrrial

well, it looks to me like "cellar door" is a crowd favouit.

I think they should call it "JAIL"
(or "GAOL" for the oldie in you)

    Not many people can say
"yerr man, I saw [enter band name here]
in JAIL there the other night"
    or
"yerrIwas in JAIL the other night. deadly buzz man. deadly."
    or
"jayzus, there's great music in JAIL"

... well you get the picture...
You could also call THE JAIL,
but that limits the effectiveness of the title methinks.
    although it's a small point.

I await my cheque with patience

How about 'El Mocambo' a club favoured by the Stones (April Wine and others) many moons ago. Seriously Cheesy in central Dublin though.

    How about Supernaut?
Soundhole was suggested by a friend but given the ability of the Dubs to give everything a nickname, perhaps not.

    no really

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,105 ✭✭✭Tyrrial

    How about Invoice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,371 ✭✭✭acquiescefc

    I like 'Double U'

    Flows off the auld tongue

'Tonight, ladies and gents, Metallica live at the Double U'

Saves on advertising air time too!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,105 ✭✭✭Tyrrial

arn't there a chain of hotels called the W....?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 248 ✭✭Achille

while talking about this with some friends someone said that naming a venue like this is like naming a child, so i figured why not just give it a person's name.
and i dont mean like Isaac Butt's or Whelan's. just a straight name on its own.

    Hank.

"oh, we're playing a gig in Hank"
"i won free tickets to Hank tonight!"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭Saint-dotsie

speaking of metallica the way their going they will end up laying gigs in little clubs for the rest of their lifes, that new song sounds really really atrocious,i swear to god it sounds like a combination of old metallica.speed metal, linkin park, and of course Korn.

    no names to suggest

I second the motion... the possibilities for humour are endless - "Yeah kids, I met your mother in Jail... "

How about "The Haven" or Haven

    or

    The Bunker

either way you could advertise it as a "safe haven" for those with good musical taste:p
