I got a set of weights from argos a while ago. It was the 50kg set. long bar and two dumb bells.

Does anyone know whats the max weight i can put on the bar. I have a few extra weights around. Will the bar hold much more than the 50 that came with the bar.

The extra weights are metal, so there wont be a problem fitting them on the bar.

You'll need to contact the manufacturers.

The strength of the bar is dependent on a few factors and even bars that look the same may have different load bearing maximums.

It is a bit too late, but investment in a mid range olympic bar would probably be the best move - it's not likely you will ever 'outgrow' it for any excersise.

    Answering an old one! :-)

Argos bars = about 140kg - 308lbs if you can get that on them.
Olympic bars are either 600,700,1000 or 1500lbs. Most found in gyms are 600!

The 50 kg Argos set we're talking about is a cast iron set with a 5ft bar, right? This is important because that bars that come with the cast iron sets are a lot stronger than the bars that come with the vinyl sets.

I have the cast iron set and have put 95 kgs on the bar and it took it no problem and I'd say it could have taken quite a bit more without bending/snapping.
