    LOL :) I WIN!!! I WIN!!!!

So what do you reckon? You like it?

I've found that from time to time the Data Recorder splits a session up into 20 smaller sessions which is a pain in the hole. I've written a littkle program that concatenates all these back into one. Let me know if you want it.

    Great tool!!

The Garmin Forerunner 201 is the one for me. I got mine 3 weeks ago and it is simply the best piece of kit I ever bought. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Overall, I think it is probably the smallest GPS device for running. It is big if you compare it to say, a regular stopwatch, but when you have it on it honestly doesn't seem that big - in fact the large screen is a real advantage as you can track many different metrics at once - pace, distance, time, elevation, etc.

what the?? I've obviously been in the dark ages when it comes to this type of thing....what exactly does it do? Heart rate monitor and GPS combined? Why would you want to know where you are by satellite when you can see where you are anyway?

To know how far you have run, you have to know where you are.

Speed and distance monitor that hooks up to a pc to give graphs and stats.

To be honest the data recorder is not the most reliable of things. Its great and all but reliability is nots its forte.

Is there any problems with getting satellite reception using the Timex or Garmin devices in Ireland? Has anyone tried hill running with these or have you just mainly used them in urban areas?

Also where did you buy yours?

I've a friend in Switzerland who bought one ( Timex) and he says it takes him 5 mins before the GPS starts working so he uses this time to warm before he starts his training session.

GPS will lose signal when there is heavy cover over head (roof, heavy foliage) and it can also suffer from a canyon effect where there are high sides (rocks, buildings etc) and it cannt get signal from enough satlites.

Best thing to do is let it lock before you start running and you will be grand, normally takes about a min or two when you turn it on. GPS units have gotten very good in recent years my only complaint is that Garmin have stopped supporting the standard protocol (NMEA 0183) serial hookups to PC's in favour of their own one, which means your GPS will only work with their software. Not a big issue for this unit though. Generally the speed is extreamly accurate and postion is to within 10 meters.

    Hi all,

Hmm. This is strangely coincidental. I was recently approached and asked to start stocking the Timex watches. I hadn't had any previous experience with them and to be frank was quite unsure, as I already stock Polar, Oregon etc. Do I really need a new HRM range?

I'm not a big fan of the new Polar F-series, and would prefer something a lot more useful, like the GPS System and the Timex stuff. I'm also a sucker for really cool looking charts and graphs, which the Data Recorder has. Anyways long story short, having read the above comments I've ordered in a limited quantity and I'll see what they're like. I'll see if I can set up a full demo and if anyone wants to take a look your more than welcome.

If anyone has personal experience using them, please post a review or if anyone has suggestions regarding alternate makes opinions are welcome. It's not my area of expertise so anything at all would be good.

    Thanks guys.

    Boru.
