Generally use 128K ISDN at home.

Don't know what type my work connection is but I can get downloads of >100KB/s.

    Wow Great responce.
56gay is catching up fairly quick :)
i knew it was too good to be true. i never knew so many people used isdn, Why pay so much more for a tiny bit more speed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭ando

ah in fairness, isdn is a whole lot better than 56k, for gaming and for fairly instant connection.

There's quite a few on wireless now IE leap/IrishBroadband too, that should of been included in the poll

i have a 56K modem in my PC

don't be fooled though because at the moment i am cruising at the crazy speed of 14,400 bps :( which is incredibly slow. some days i might get 16,800 bps which is also **** :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,683 ✭✭✭daveg

DSL 512K down 128K up @ work. Dload speeds of up to 60K :)

at home 56K - download speeds of 5K

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 849 ✭✭✭jwt

    ISDN

Expecting to get broadband sometime in 2015 possibly 2014 if I'm really lucky

ISDN is the best choice for remote access/remote control given that ADSL is not available, sat is too laggy and 56 is slow.

    byte

ISDN here. It's as close as I'll get to broadband within the next 20 years, unless I move!

At least 64k is a tad faster than the 28.8k I was stuck with when on standard "56k" dialup.

I was fairly happy with my 512K/128K ADSL
Till i seen SyxPak bandwidth, that must be very nice to use?
i wonder how much eircom will charge for that..................
or what kind of cap they would put on it....................

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

there wouldn't be a cap on something like that, and I'd say he probably works for eircom with those sorts of speeds :p

least now we know where all the bandwidth is going! ;)

During the World Cup they had no telly in the offices so they got some lad to point a web cam at a telly and streamed it over a 5Mbit feed.

That's tax eurons well spent :)

10x10^6 bits per second / 8 bits per byte = 1.25x10^6 bytes per second or 1.25MB/sec.
    You're getting ~2 3rds of your capacity.
    What nic/switch/isp/OS settings you got?

Could probably optimise that a bit more, unless it's in and office and you're throttled (wise thing to do tbh :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭Tiesto

that post about the footie match streaming hahah
    taking the pisS!
    5Mbit feed. imagine u had a 3 gig cap on that :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

twas over their internal network, so it probably cost them bollock all* tbh.

*bollock all being a highly technical term meaning "Not a whole lot"
