    The world will change.
I feel it in the water.
I feel it in the earth.
I smell it in the air.
Much that once was, will be lost
It will begin with the forging of the great lan.
A warez connection for ciaran and steve immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings( come on its a parody :D)
A Battle.net connection for jp and fran, great miners and er..........craftsmen of the mountain halls
And cs and wolfenstien were gifted to danny and curtis, who above all else desire a good upload.
For within this lan was bound the strength and the will to play games all day and all night.

whisper on the wind of an uber-nerdhouse to be built from the sweat of the itcarlow Compsoc :)

We need a total of 16 volunteers with good spec pcs to fill two houses which are side by side in southern gardens. We will definitely make a lan between the two for gaming but there is also talk of a high speed internet connection to satisfy the leeching needs. *cough*
I also will bring down a 32" tv/dvd/video just in case we ever get bored of sitting in front of a computer.

If this happens i will eat my own legs so i have an excuse not to leave the house :D

At the moment the list of interested partys is
The first group are definites..........if they pass.

    bicky
    ivan
    i am dogboy
    havoc
    sicnarf
    clansman
barry o neill [clansmans mates ]
paddy o gorman [but paddy not in on the lan]

    stevenk
    dempseyt
    mordeth
    Snowball
Sinnocence(will be in the college next year)

if you want to be a definite then pm me
    Come on ppl sign up.
    And remember..

The College will be near, but the power of the lan cannot be undone.

    and the ball is rolling..
who gives a **** if your not in the college move in anyway.
    I think its 55 euro.
around ten each a week for the adsl.

    The crack will be great

    To clarify for every body.
Apart from a PC what will be needed?
Will there be switches, and as for a gateway PC that ciaran was talking about the other night, who would supply that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Bicky

I will be upgrading after the summer so you can use my old p2 350.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

what kind of dsl you gona get... via?.. no cap, it'd be nice :)

or I think there's some other more expensive eircom ones with no cap too.. if there's 8 of us in a house chipping in we could prob spring for it

as for a gateway pc.. I'm sure people have a few bits and bobs they can throw together and make a machine out of it

Or my p3 450 and i think ciaran has a 24 port switch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 896 ✭✭✭clansman

i have a 32" widescreen tv, ps2 and if i make the right phone calls i could get 2 sky dishs and boxes (€65 per month, so if we got six in a house that would only be about €10 a month).....

    i have a p3 677 (sh&t graphic gard 8)mB
and hopefully i'll have a 1.2 amd soon... (64Mb graphic)

I have a room in southern gardens (42) and the same landlord has 41 so if we could fill them houses......

the house i think can fit 6 ppl
ie 4 single room and one double....(i think)
i gave the number to some person in 307 to day i think it was Bicky,
if it was u Bicky plase let me know if u phoned the landlord..

so if ppl want in they beter aact fast....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 896 ✭✭✭clansman

Right just got off the phone from the loadlord of 41 and 42 southern gardens.......

rent single: ~65 inl all bills
rent double: ~60 inl all bills
each house cant fit 8 ppl - 4 single rooms and 2 double.
the rooms are not taken, however ppl have been enquiring.

the disposit is 350, by the end of june, however if u do not get back into college the disposit is fully refundable if you let the landlord know before Augest.
€100 insure that u'll get a room, (granted u play the rest before then end of june).

so if u want in u better act fast....

    any question just ask....

BTW as far as the loanlord is concerned none of us are in first year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Bicky

Yeah i phoned the landlord but she told me that she no longer owns 41 but that we could have 42. She told me that 41 is still being rented to students but is not registered with the college yet.
I lived in the house last year for 4 months and it is sound. The rooms are nice and big and the bills are included.
she is not nosy but the place has to be kept clean when she comes for the rent on a monday evening.

As far as the connection is concerned ciaran is in charge of checking the details. Right now he says netsources business broadband service. its 1m down 256k up at 225 euro per month. This includes the telephone line fee. and as you say cillian no cap muhahahahaha. hopefully the business line might actually only have businesses on it so that means we could get great speeds at night. which to be honest is the only time when most of us would be out of bed anyway.
With the more people we get it would be possible to get two connections, one in each house. If we had ten ppl then it would cost about 11.50 each a week which is ****ing great considering.

For start-up prices the installation is 165 euro.
Eircom site is down right now so i dont know how much for a phone line installation but i guess 150 or so.
We also got to get a modem and some kind of gateway or router.

    /me gets too excited

    The world will change.
I feel it in my waters.
I feel it in my bowels.
I smell it in the bathroom.
Much that once was, will be flushed
It will begin with the forging of the great lan.
A boards connection for ciaran and steve immortal, whinest and flatulent of all beings( come on its a parody of a parody )
A porn.com connection for jp and fran, great masterbaters and er..........decorators of the bathroom walls
And sheep and cousins were gifted to danny and curtis, who above all else desire a good haircut.
For within this lan was bound the strength and the will to play with themselves all day and all night.

I'd also be interested. i would have 2 pc's, a box of cat6 and about 50 premade hub/switch/router to pc cables.
will possibly get some other stuff over the summer.

if there is still room give me a shout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Bicky

Yes. May have 2 laptops and another PC but I doubt it. I will if I work my ass off and save up enough money to buy the PC and have cash for rent and so on for college so basicly no.

yes. 3 meter cat6 premade high quality (gigabit connection on one side) cables.

3 meter cables ain't long enough when you think about. Equipment is the main focus for the moment. I can get ye any amount of CAT5 at any length.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭Bicky

10m(or more) cat5 i reckon if every comp on one of the houses is to be connected to the host in the other house
The main focus for the moment is to get ppl to agree to the basics. For some reaon they seem more concerned with exams:)

From what ClansMan tells me its as goes so far:

2 houses next door to each other
    4 rooms per house
    each room single
€50-70 per week per person (its a guestimation. The lady does not know because her hubbie does the rent)
    + Bills
They are asking about letting the broadband go in.

sounds good to me so far. if its like that I'm in

Well, if ye can get 2 hubs/switches and put 1 in each house. Connect each machine to the nearest switch, blah blah and then get one big dirty long length of cable and connect the 2 switches. Bob's yer uncle :)

You will probably need a pc to do NAT to share a broadband connection, as far as I know all of the irish broadband products can't be shared by simply plugging them into a switch/hub.

right people here is the final list. As you can see 12 names. Between the two house there is 10 single rooms and 2 double.
But 2 people currently in one of the houses are staying next year - we dont know if they are taking a double or two singles until next monday.
me and sicnarf are sharing anyway and we might need 2 more people to share a room. any volunteers?? rent is slightly cheaper.
Either way we are gonna be needing the deposits next tuesday.
anyone got a problem with that then pm or text me

Either that or some kind of wacky smoke signals (see kitchen fire)
