After reading this group for some time I'm beginning to see that everyone has a wildly different opinion of what it means to be fit. To be fitness means having a lean body that can lift a little more weight that most people can, and can run for ages. Thats just what it means for me.

    Whats it mean for you?

Fitness is cardio i.e. aerobic. Being able to run, endurance etc. etc.

Strength/Power is anaerobic. Being able to lift your body weight, or 1.5x your weight or 2x your weight etc.

The two mix just fine, but everyone has to have a preference for one over the other to a certain extent. In my case I favour anaerobic, and in someone like daveirl's (at a guess) he favours aerobic.

All of it is good for you and your heart and will get you in good shape. But depending on where your emphasis lies in training you will develop differently, i.e. power lifter vs. long distance runner.

Am I wrong in thinking that fitness is something to do with how quickly your heart rate returns to normal after activity? I thought the fitter you are the quicker your heart goes from lets say 180Bpm down to 60Bpm not how many times you can lift 180Kg?
