We are starting a 11 a side Soccer team, besides the fact im crap at soccer it also turns out im not fit. Used to do weights and swimming when i was younger. Im not overweight or anything but id like to be able to play 2 30 minute halves without requiring major heart surgery.
Im living close to a soccer pitch so what i was thinking of doing is:
run the length of the pitch, sprint the ends. so basically i would be running then sprinting then running then sprinting again for each lap and try to keep that up for say 10 mins starting off. then increase the times till eventually i get to 30 mins. What ya think ??

Ill also be doing some weight training to get legs and upper body back in shape. i was thinking it sounds like an effective way to get my speed and recovery up, matches will be starting in august roughly.
Anyone have any other ideas ?

    Quick update on this

I managed to do about 7 mins constant last night. it was after work and i was pretty tired. The sprinting the shorter sides of the pitch really kills me.
I put 10 mins of music on the mp3 player, got thru 1 and a half songs then nearly had an anurisim on the field. not a good start
