I'm looking for a little help with carpal tunnel syndrome, AKA w*nkers cramp :)
Basically I have to write a lot of notes for uni, and writing for any period of time leaves my wrist in BITS, for instance I wrote 25 a4 pages of notes yesterday and my wrist is really messed up today, very hard to type etc.

Can anyone recommend something to alleviate this? Do I need to go to the doctor or is there anything I can get in the chemist to ease this?

try taking lecture notes in different ways. When I was in college I used to try to take down every word the lecturer said, just in case I missed the vital bit of info.

Use bullet points, don't write essay style notes, use memory maps like a spiderweb of linked points, use arrows to connect points that are linked, draw diagrams if its easier than scribbling a description.

maybe ask your lecturer(s) if they have copies of their own notes? or do the lazy thing and photocopy your friends notes!

don't really have any physio advice (apart from lay off the ****!) :)

    Heheh :)
The amount of writing isn't the problem, it's just writing in general doesn't matter how long i'm writing, any more than a few mins and it's sore :(

I also get it from using the mouse as well...I have seen people using a thing like a splint on their wrist...tis just headwrecking!

An elasticated support wrist band seemed to do a lot for mine.

It'll basically support your wrist and alleviate the pain a lil.

If you can though, give it a lot of breaks/rest, and stretchy rotaty movements.

Lame pictures of excercises that might help :-)

Boots have lil elasticated bandagey thingees you can use. They're pretty decent.

If you need something stronger/tigher/better there's a few places on the web that specialise in RSI products, mostly "brand name" wrist supports, there's a few ones in particular going around. I think one of them has a name like Goode Band or Google Band. Obviously not Google but that's how I remembered it :-)

I'll check it out, althought my local Boots on Baggot st is pretty crappy, they don't even have fully waterproof plasters for putting on new tattoo's/piercing if you do watersports. Ark

    Logic, Mercy,

Could you please just arrange a pit fight for etho and settle it that way?

Then at least you will both get hurt.

    JAK.

And they have to wear thongs? And wrestle in jelly? That'd be entertaining I must say!
