AFAIK there is no web site but come along on a monday or wednesday and all your questions will be answered. Today we have FIFA 2003 for the PS2. New members are welcome to come along and join.

not afaik, mostly all they do is meet up on mondays and wednesdays in A307 (3rd floor, LRC) at 5pm -9/10pm and play computer games.

a website would be a nice idea though, and perhaps an interesting project for some of the web monkeys in compsoc?

maybe it's time we start thinking about where exactly we want compsoc to go.. are you all happy with just 2 gaming sessions a week or do you have any other ideas you'd like to share?

keep it clean, and to the point

    Committee members:

    Ivor - President
    Ciaran - Vice President (Ivan)
    Steven - Treasurer (StevenK)
    Dara - Secetary (Snowball)

    Meetings are on:

    Mondays - room A307 (in 3rd floor of LRC) @ 17:00 till 22:00
    Wednesdays - room A307 (in 3rd floor of LRC) @ 17:00 till 22:00

    Website:

Maybe. If I get my act together. If I have the time (basicly if I am confident that I know my stuff for my finals) I will set one up. Space has been OKed on the Intranet and maybe the Internet (maybe Compsoc.itCarlow.ie) but the content still has to be screened so untill I make it they can't screen the content and they can't OK it.

    Games so far:

    Single player and multiplayer games:

    StarCraft
    StarCraft Broodwars
    Total Annihilation
    Star Wars - Jedi Outcast
    Diablo II
Diablo II - Lord of Destruction
    Hidden and Dangerous
    Operation Flashpoint
    Cossack's
    Civilisation III
    Homeworld
    Return to Castle Wolfenstine
    Empire Earth
    Ground Control
    Rogue Spear
    Delta Force
    Age of Empires II
    Aliens Vs Preditor

    Single player games:

    American McGee's Alice
    Clive Barker's Undying
    Max Payne
Delta Force (Just need to find a crack to get multi working)
    Desperados (2d western single player)

    Multiplayer games:

    Unreal Tournament
    Worms World Party
Quake I (Not in yet but only need to bother to bing in one day)
Quake II (Not in yet but only need to bother to bing in one day)
    Quake III

    Comming attractions:

    Medal of Honor
    Unreal
    Aliens Vs Preditor II
    Theif (with multiplayer mods)
    No one lives for ever

If you want games (and u can't get them working) just ask me and I will try to fix them for the network.

Requirements for games to work are:

    - Be able to work without regestry enteries on the PC.
    - Be cracked so it works with out a CD (not an essencial be extreemly handy)
    - Also if they are network games they have to be TCP/IP.

    Playstation 2

We have one (bought by the SU [Spacedog], JP promised one last year and Ivor and Ivan reminded him in a nice way ;) ns 1 guys). If you want to play just bring in games. Oh, just let Ivan know so he can bring it into compsoc for you.

If you have any more questions Ivan, Stevenk or myself will answer (Dunno if Ivor, the president of the Society goes onto Boards.ie).

cool TomTom, but there's no rush :)

we can easily put this kinda thing on the back burner until next year, maybe we could do a little work over the summer and have it ready for a grand opening in september?

free cd full of material-of-questionable-legality when you sign up to compsoc! :D

Mordeth, ur plans to get compsoc close are futile. No there is no "free cd full of material-of-questionable-legality when you sign up to compsoc" Mr Lawyer for Microsoft (or any other organisation out there).

Hey I may be just picking you up wrong mister Snowball, you seem to have a strange attitude to CompSoc. why if TomTom currently has the time and skills to throw a site together can he not be set to it, maybe you could give him some guidance as to what you require. Ok fair enough the Comp Soc plays games and does little else, I'll join, pity bout Couter Strike though. I think it should at least have a website, is the Intranet provided by the SU or computer services ????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 836 ✭✭✭Snowball

dont get me wrong, compsoc apriciates all the help it can get but the website is something that I said I would do and actually looking forward to doing. Also I have something in mind. Anyways, TomTom can slap me silly in the canteen if he thinks I was being rude, he knows me.

No strange attitude to CompSoc just was in a lecture at the time and was touch typing trying to look like I was actualy listening to my lecturer, is harder than it sounds :D

And about the softwear thing, well there have been people thrown out (and someone told me that one guy is looking at some jail time or atleast a serios fine) of 2 colleges, (that I know of) in Dublin area, and more around the country. They are aparently looking at colleges to suspend, throw out of college, fine or jailed for distributing softwear illigaly. Latly its got serios. Anyways, Ivan is conserned that I could get Compsoc shut down. So am I and I think we are not alone in that.

P.S: you should probably ignore how I word things, the combination of my dylexia and the fact that I type faster than I should ends up with a pretty thought less post (regarding how it is phraised). I very rearly mean anything by what I say

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

    lol

i was kidding about the material-of-questionable-legality :) i doubt the college would look kindly upon compsoc distributing warez around the place heh

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 836 ✭✭✭Snowball

lol, I know but still, thats why I posted it. There are some reps that would take that as evedance and hassle the college. The college would just make their life esier and close the society, well, could happen anyways, just incase, u know

despite what you say, here is a temp website (very bad)
I'm getting sick of waiting for ciaran to come in with the PS2

    looks good tom

thief doesn't work in win2k, but there is a mod for UT which is the exact same but faster........to be honest we rarely play anything apart from RTCW, starcraft, quake and the odd dose of AVP

im done bringing in games that are anything but FPS's because people dont really play anything else and i couldn't be arsed bringing in games people dont play(warroir kings, homeworld, sacrifice, ground control.......)

ill have OSP for wolfy in soon, which is a mod which doesn't change the game much but adds some cool extra stats and noises(you hear a sheep when you stab someone)

hrm, I seem to recall playing theif on my laptop before.. which runs 2k
I'll have another look later on when I can find the disc.

Quake tonight was classic, best game ever

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

If you happen to like playing PC games, which are reasonably old, on machines which are designed to prevent people from playing games. Then yes compsoc is one of the best socs going.

Just come in and log on at a machine (ask someone there what the log in is) and have a go. Try find out what everyone is playing and they'll tell you how to get it going. If you dont like it dont come back, if you do, we'll need your first born son.

last night was a laugh, we need to play low grav Q3 more often........if i learn the commands we could do it in wolfenstein too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,219 ✭✭✭Redrocket

the commands are easy to get its just a matter of getting loads of people into the server... loads of people that are up for a bit of low grav madness. you can also set the game speed up as in emulate time running faster, so you shoot, run, reload, everything at a faster or slower rate. that and low grav can be insanity

Yeah, fudge you steph-an.... or ill put that ifeminite pony-tail of yours in a printing press

Did yee ever play GTA3 sped up 3x. So funny the cars stay the same speed so you can just leg it away from the cops. Pure class.

anyone wants to play just call around and walk in during the right hours... 5-10 monday/wednesday
im sure we can get a game of unreal going like the huge 22 player game of quake3 we had last week.. might be a bit of fun....

I don't think those pc's in lab307 meet the minimum specs required for UT2003.
