I weigh about 67kg. What sort of weight am I pushing when I do pressups?...it cannot be the full 67kg as my feet are still on the floor and holding some of the load. What ratio is there between body weight to actual weight when doing pressups?

    Just wondering.

Does Bench Pressing make your back sore? My lower back muscles seem to be fairly sore that past months since I started benching.

As long as you are on your toes with strict form, it should be fairly close, but that is really a question for some maths kid to work out.

It is rare enough to see people doing push ups correctly. Many people have a massive arch in their backs or fail to go fully down.

Easy way to get a rough idea is take a day - do a max burnout after a little warm up on the bench at 67kg.

Then take a day or two rest - warm up again and try a burnout with strict form on push ups.

There is a slight difference in the movement, but it should give you an idea.

    Interesting though.

As regards a sore back and bench. No - It should certainly not hurt your lower back. Perhaps you have poor form, a muscle imbalance (very common), or a sensitive injury.

Doing push-ups, you are lifting about 60% - 70% of your weight, i thought about that a few months ago, and using weighing scales on each hand, i worked it out.

If you put your feet up on a chair or bench when doing press-ups does it increase the weight you are doing in the press-up or does it change the muscle group that you are using. I allways find the feet on chair press-ups harder.

Also if you are doing like 50 press-ups a set is it pointless, i.e will you not gain any more muscle mass?
