Well, I think that it was down more to luck that the game was on midweek, tbh.

Here's the page for the Sky channel frequencies:
    http://www.lyngsat.com/dig/skyuk.shtml

The only thing called "galaxy" I can find is a radio station. Maybe it's a radio station they are on about...

I inserted the frequencies as shown, and can receive Galaxy, but picture seems to be breaking up. I have noticed that Mobile phones going off in the house can also cause the picture to break up. Anyone got any ideas.....................please

Does any one know the best setting to have the Signal quality and signal strength at. My strength is at less than 25% while the quality is @ over 50%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭carrolls

Both settings would at least need to be above the 70% mark to receive the Czech channels.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Darby OGill

I'm not getting this signal. I have a 60cm Triax dish, both levels at 70% minimum, in Kildare. Any suggestions?

that doesn't apply to me then. last week when i was getting them no problem i had about 40% for the top bar and about 20% for the bottom bar. the wind might have nudged my dish a bit. i'll go and play with it tonight and see what happens

It depends on a lot of factors.
Time of day. (Seems to be better around teatime.)
    Cloudy or not cloudy.
Rainwater or no rainwater on LNB.
    Size of dish.
    Any amount of other factors.
If it was an analog signal, it would be very fuzzy.
You see we are out of their footprint so we are always going to be on the treshold of success/failure.

    We are not.
They recently changed the footprint for that transponder and Ireland is well within a healthy DB of that Transponder.
You should have no difficulty picking it up on Sky Digital.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Darby OGill

Thanks Mossy, I'll try that tonight. Are you saying manual tuning is different than add channels though? Why would this be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

The Czech channels use TWO different footprints. One is quite usable. The other is erratic on my 90cm dish.
(I have Sky on three separate 90cm dishs, but only 2 are digibox)

Also some models of Digibox do not work so well on poorer signals.

Some dishs / LNBs may not be aligned so well as others. Or there may be losses on badly connected cables.

Stanice0 is example. One transponder is fine (except if it rains hard), the other transponder with Stanice0 is "Central Europe" beam. I think I got that transponder only once on the PC Card receiver (it does SR etc the Digibox can't do).

    Well I don't.
But a lot of people in Ireland and the UK do have problems, going by the comments on this board and Digital Spy.
Would I be right in saying that the optimum area for the Czech F3S beam on Eurobird 28.5 east is central europe?

Well I can't get it. We must be too far away. It does take a long time to say 'no signal found' so we can't be too far off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9 topflite

I can pick it up here in Tralee, but it seems to be freezing at times, anyone got any ideas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭Lennoxschips

People who can pick it up had their dish installed properly, people who can't had their dish installed by cowboys.

(Ok, i'm being an arse. You could try getting a slightly bigger dish, the Eurobird signal is slightly weaker and isn't really meant for Ireland)

the only difference is that the way i mentioned shows you the signal strength and signal quality of the transponder you keyed into the digibox. that was poorly explained but you will see how well you receive the Czech channels

i don't know if this has always been the case. but Galaxie Sport is FTA on a Saturday

    what you can see is

    Stuttgart v Hertha Berlin 14.25
    Arsenal v Fulham (delayed) 16.30

based on my nonexistant knowledge of the Czech language
    taken from www.galaxie-sport.cz

I tried to get Galaxy, and after the system found the channels and I installed them, the picture on Galaxy kept breaking up or freezing. A friend of mine had a look at it my system and told me that my Coax cable was s**t, and that I sould upgrade my cable. Is there such a thing as special Coax cable for satellite or is he just taking the p*ss.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

first off the channel isn't aimed towards the British Isles. the satelite beam that it is on is aimed towards central Europe and not everyone here can pick it up. so what if ITV have highlights rights. there are some people in the UK who can see these on RTÉ four and a half hours before ITV. Al Jazeera show premiership goals at 5.00 anyway and that is on the EPG

1)People who have rte in the uk have it illegally so dat doesnt count!

2)It is available to most people in the uk and ireland via other channels which means they can watch live premiership footie on it when we hand sky 60 euro a month for that privledge while its free on galaxy!!!!!!

3)Sky paid 1.1 billion for exlusive rights to show footie on sky sports and it is their main attraction for sky digital customers so they wouldnt want it shown live anywhere else!

So while i like the channel because i see goals earlier i reckon its goin be stopped soon!!

Watching that on Saturday reminded me of the days RTÉ had live or delayed coverage......

not everyone receives it via other channels. eg. i can only pick it up with my 80cm dish. i have no hope with the minidish. you seem bitter about the fact that you pay to watch the Premiership on Sky Sports when this channel shows some games for free. the main difference between Galaxie and Sky is English commentary, perfect reception and widescreen. worth the money IMO. i couldn't care less if people choose to watch via other channels

i can get galaxy ok in cork
picture pixelates alot every 15mins or so and then freezes sometimes too, but changing channels and switching back fixes that

I cannot receive this channel either but what I can tell you is I have a Quad LNB and am using 3 Panasonic Dig boxes from it and on all three boxes I get a no channels found message when I put in the frequency.
Now what I have done in the last few minutes was I took of the Quad and replaced it with the normal LNB that came with the dish and hey presto I can now receive the channel on all 3 boxes all be it I can now only watch one box.
So what I can presume from this is that when one switches from an LNB to a quad there is some signal loss. Even though it may not be noticeable it must be enough to stop me receiving this channel when using the Quad.
I would welcome any suggestion to either contradict my thoughts or to verify them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭Lennoxschips

If you want to use a quad LNB you should really be using a bigger dish.

In a quad LNB not one of the receiving units is *precisely* over the centre of the dish, which is what you need for viewing fringe channels like the Czech ones. People usually compensate for this by using a slightly bigger dish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,346 ✭✭✭✭Tony

The quad you are using would not be suitable for any dish other than a minidish. If you are upgrading to a bigger dish you need to change to a standard (IE non Sky) twin or quad output lnb.

I could get it here in Newtownards, Co Down until a couple of weeks ago. Now, it's still stored in "Other Channels" but I can get neither sound or picture. Any ideas what could be causing this?

P.S. Messers keep quiet. I only want people who might actually think they have any information to help me.
