I beleive its called detachment, i think i see things moving and i get really confused, it never lasts more than a minute or two then i am back to normal, i would normally get this every second or third week, is this anything to be worried about?

    Well there you go buddy.

Smoking hash, dropping acid, yokes (read e), snorting whatever you can afford... makes you into a spaced out yutz.

Don't say no-one ever said, drugs make you into a space cadet.

Try orange juice and good mocha.
Cafe Sorrento or Coffee Society do good mocha... check it out next time you get spaced.

Hehehe, have you ever been walking down the street and saw someone who you thought was you but then you remember that he can't be because you are you? If you have you're in trouble!

That's oxygen deprivation. You might have poor blood circulation. It's a bit like what happens if you exercise almost to the point of fainting- dream like state with a slight out-of-body experience type feeling.

Could be to do with stress and/or blood pressure. Are you eating healthily and getting some exercise?

A sudden change in blood pressure can slightly alter the shape of your eye and make stationary thing look like they moved.

If it persists, try talking to your doctor.

i know what you mean. sometimes im jsut talking to soemone, and i feel like im a character in a play or something. like its not real. its very hard to explain. sometimes i get really freaked out by it. i used to start thinking things like yesterday is never going to happen again and questioning who i am and if im really real and whatnot. very strange

What age are you and what height? Could be postural hypotention. I suffer from that. It's where you grow to fast for your blood pressure and it ****s you over in the head from time to time. Especially in stuffy environments or if you go from a lying down position to a standing up position too quickly.

You grow out of it, or so i'm told.

I get something like that, if i'm lying/sitting down for a few minutes and stand up fast or even casually, my vision becomes distorted and all i can see is white for anything upwards of 15 seconds. Is this what you are talking about Neil3030.

I get the same thing Caesar - don't think it's the same as Neil's though.
i put it down to blood pressure.

Another possibility is that your life is so mundane at the moment that you feel like you're not actually part of it, that everything is just a repetitious cycle. As in you can be doing things without realising that you have done them or think you've done them when in fact you havent.

Another possibility is that you are f****ng knackered. I worked extremely long shifts a few years ago where your body just goes into zombie mode where there is no thought goes into your actions/reactions, you're just on auto-pilot. A possible remedy is to break your cycle of normal events and see how that pans out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,025 ✭✭✭yellum

I used to get that after I was really fatigued or was sick for a while. You'd be talking to someone and its like you'd withdraw into your body and everyone seems to be far away.

Like you are looking out through another set of eyes. Tis Weird.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 210 ✭✭deimos

yellum - "Like you are looking out through another set of eyes. Tis Weird."

Thats exactly what it is like, its like I disapear and I am just watching these people talking around me and to me, its like I've lost all control of myself but I still carry on as normal.

And to add to my problem, I had a strange experience on Monday night, I was lying in bed just about to go asleep staring up at the ceeling, next thing I saw smoke and smelt it, I jumped up out of bed to see what the hell was going on, and there was no fire or smoke. I was not asleep yet, but I could nearly swear it was real, I actually saw smoke and smelt it, my hole room was covered with it.

I was'nt droping acid, smoking pot or drinking or anything that day or the night before.I had a few drinks the saturday night but nothing other than that.

I hate to say it but I always heard that smelling smoke was a sign that there is something wrong in ones brain. Maybe you should think about going to a doctor if this keeps happening. It could be some kind of localised pressure on a part of your brain maybe, or a constriction of a certain area's blood vessels.

I'm no doctor but I think you need to see one if it gets worse.

Sorry I forgot about this thread.
Yes that does sound like it. Although in my case i do not see white.

The symptoms can vary. I am only 6"3 so it is not that severe. I cannot smoke reefa or anything anymore because it lowered my bp too much on one occasion which caused me to black out. At least i'm assuming that that was the cause anyway. I don't know!

The fact that your distortion comes as a result of standing up too fast (regardless of what actually happens) would make me inclined to believe that it is postural hypotention.

I first found it out when I passed out once in school (nearly 2 years ago....remember when we got snow (Dublin) in february?) I came in from the cold and sat down by the radiator, suddenly felt sick, threw up and fell face first into it. Pleasent. I went to the doctors and he "diagnosed" it so to speak.

It isn't serious afaik. Just be careful when going from one environment to another, ie, from lying to standing, cold to hot situations etc. Also stuffyness has caused it once or twice in my case.

I'd say in my life (now 18 yrs old) I've only ever had about 3 or 4 serious cases, ie, actually passing out or having to go to bed.

Go to your GP or mention it to him the next time you are there would be my advice. You grow out of it anyways or so i'm told. Once You stop growing up, your bp will gradually catch up.

    Hope that helps!

I've experienced postural hypotension every now and then since my mid 20s. Basically, I sometimes feel dizzy and start to black out if I stand up too quickly. I'm only 5 foot 3 (and have been since I was 12), so in my case height/growth hadn't anything to do with it. I never found out what did, even though it can be related to a number of things: side effects of certain drugs, dehydration, even diabetes. Anyway, it has become less frequent, as I've grown older.

All the same deimos, I definitely would mention it to your GP, just in case...

Have you got low blood pressure, sunbeam?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭sunbeam

Not particularly, but then I've never measured how much it drops by when I get the odd dizzy spell. My GP tried to do this once when I explained what was happening to me-of course I couldn't bring about one on cue. He said it did drop quite a bit when I stood up quickly all the same.

I actually have white coat hypertension i.e. I usually tense up when I visit a doctor and my blood pressure reads higher than what it normally does. After a few borderline high readings I had blood pressure lowering medication suggested to me by one doctor. However this can make postural hypotension worse, so I decided to buy myself a wrist monitor in Boots and observe my BP fluctuations before taking that course of action. They don't provide quite as accurate a reading as the professional equipment, but are useful nonetheless.

It turns out that I have normal blood pressure which spikes dramatically when I get stressed (as everyone’s does to a certain degree). Caffeine and lack of sleep don't help much either. It really brought home to me how much harm I could possibly be doing to my health, by getting worked up over stupid things. I've since learned to meditate (purely for relaxation purposes) and this helps a lot.

im a fond believer of the phrase "theres no smoke without fire"

anyway, i dont think the original thread poster was talking about "dizzy spells" (when you stand up to quickly after lying down etc) or are you?

everyone gets the above to my knowledge?

Deimos, just a question, have taken alot of Acid in your time?

If so, ever heard of the word flashback?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭Typedef

I don't get flashbacks... though... I am still a little tripped.

Actually I suppose if someone who has never taken acid or similar were to see the world 'visually' as I do, they would probably be quite freaked out.

    Pity them.

    Edit:

Flashbacks are over-rated. The side effects from taking alot of psychedelic drugs are that even though you are no longer 'tripping' you still have residual optical quasi-hallucinatory effects, which are outside the norm of simple after images staying on your retina.

Tripping from ye olde tabernacle of truth www.dictionary.com
    psy·che·del·ic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sk-dlk)
    adj.
Of, characterized by, or generating hallucinations, distortions of perception, altered states of awareness, and occasionally states resembling psychosis.

    Flashbacks are over-rated

Personally I have never had one and never will, for one good reason.

But, flashbacks are certainly not over-rated to some people Typdef, it depends on alot of factors (as is always the case with drugs) a friend of mine had an awful one two years ago and believe me it was by no means over-rated.

I simply asked the question and I did not mean to be cheeky about it deimos.

Let me rephrase what I said...... Have you read in to the effects of LSD? and how it can trigger Flashbacks, which will vary from person to person in its effects.
