Right, I was in a UK chat room there eariler today, and saw someone had made a program that they can send sms messages through their o2 account,
its much handier than having to log into the webpage and all that...
I was wodering, has anyone made one of these themself's?
for their 500 free messages on o2..

Y not just use ICQ - unlimited txts tho it'll throttle ur txt sending if you try spamming via one of the many programming interfaces available

yeh i'd love to get my hands on a copy- that is, if there was one floating around.......? The O2 web sms interface is so long to get thru.

i use a small programme called smspop on my computer. for 5dollars i get 80sms. and its a nice simple interface.

this programme sounds cool, i still have my o2 sim card (im living in finland now) so if lenny wants to send it to me that would be cool (and save me loads of money!)

Sorry about the delay, forgot about the topic :p
mail me, or add me to your msn and I'll send/email it to you, though bear in mind it only works for o2 in UK and locus and some other site that gives 50 txts a month

If you are in Uni in DCU or Trinity then join your NETSOC...
There should be a program on it called "o2sms"
Should be what your lookig for...

perhaps otehr colleges have similar... get your own shell from an online provider and set one up too :)

click the start of the box, press insert and type away. This way you have no ad on your msgs. But you must loggin once u send, but once logged in just press back and click send again and walla, + there is away of bypassing the 500 limit a month 2. O well i got bored one day :D

    Greetings from Sunny Cork!

This is a very good program. You gaet to type a text of standard length. Fair Play.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

Am I using it wrong or something?
But all its sending me to my phone is ",Free web text - www.o2.ie."

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

Ahh, I see it only removes the ad if you use all the charaters to type the messasge..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 287 ✭✭donaloconnor

Can't believe that ye achually like it lol. Was a pretty good idea tho. But I'll fix it so that you won't have that 500 txt message limit too later when i get time even tho i doubt any1 will need that many but o well u wudn't know. But is this legal? I don't see any law against using a sms gateway but using a different method?

I've been using it since it was made, I think its brillant.. but only one slight problem.. have o2 cop'd onto to it onw?
Cause when I log in, go to the url, type in my message and send.. it loads o2 screen "your message has not been sent" and the logon screen appears again.
ned to be updated or whats the craic? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,240 ✭✭✭hussey

one or two things I noticed :

fill out the 02 details : o2.ie(the last one) .. not o2(only need to fill out once)

the numbers shoudl always be 0035387XXXXXX

    not 087XXXX

Send SMS using : should always be 02.ie

I dunoo if thats help to anyone

If any of you have perl installed and use those old-fashioned "command-line" yokes, there's a simple alternative to that program available at:

    http://www.mackers.com/projects/o2sms/

    ...if anyone's interested.

I get a "Failed (webserver timed out)" message.

Anyone esle seen this or have a solution?

    Ro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Ro-76

I'm now getting the failed login details error message.

I am using the O2.ie component, and have checked my login details on the site, and have tried various ways of writing the phone number.

I have an underscore in my O2 username. Could this be a problem?

    Ro

I cannot get this O2SMS to work either, I get a long failure string , I'm thinking O2 updated / changed the sms gateway code. Maybe there'll be an updated version (O2SMS) out soon , or is old version working for anyone ???....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,240 ✭✭✭hussey

I have version 2.4.3 and it runs perfectly

and in a message I sent the other day, i had the character + and = in a message and neither were sent (they were sent as blank characters)

Sorry for all these continuous replies but I got version
2.4.3 to work .... there is a scroll arrow above login details
-you need to make sure this is scrolled to O2 IE and enter details
    (I had it set to O2 login ) :o

    - Anyway it works now

    nice one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Ro-76

That now works for me too.

It only seems to work with numbers in the 003538XXXXXXXX format. I tried with +3538XXXXXXXX, and 08XXXXXXXX it said that it was sent, but the message did not arrive.

    Just FYI,

O2 Have an Outlook Plugin that allows you to send SMS messages from Outlook, using the account of your phone (messages appear to come from the phone.) You get charged standard SMS rate, but it's quite handy for fast typing.

When this program works, it's better because the text appears to come from your number, so when someone replies, it will go directly to your phone, and it's free!

It's actually a great piece of programming.

Where do ya get this plugin from , links please :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

For me it says sent, but doesn't atualy send.
I want donals thing back, that was brillant the way it removed the o2 siggy at the end and you could get past the 500limit per month :)

The other huge advantage of this plug-in is that you can send directly to anybody who's name/number you have saved in your Outlook contacts - No need to cut/paste numbers into the web-page any more.
