As a United fan I am quite optimistic about our chances for the first time in a few seasons. I think Liverpool are still reeling from not making phase 2 of the champions league, their form has been very indifferent since. Also United seem to have made a mini revival over the last couple of games so I would be quite hopeful. I reckon 2-1 to United.

    3 -1 to scousers - head over heart!¬

1 for owen, 1 for barthez and 1 for g neville

RVN to get our goal to take the lead!

    Gwan United

as i said earlier 3-2 to the pool with owen getting 2 gerrard getting one and van kiss the boys getting both uniteds

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

I reckon it will be a draw.

    1-1
Goal from a midfielder for united, probably a goal from Owen for the pool.

Gunners win and extend their lead at the top of the table. Of course, it won't end 1-1 now that i've predicted it :p

After last nites woeful display in front of goal, and van nistelroys hatrick, i'm going for the draw-i'd like to think we can keep our record against ye(i think we've won the last 5 meetings) but i'm realist so it's 1-1 for me. owen and van

With the way united brushed past Basle after a dodgy start I'd say they'll be very confident of victory , I just hope that as "underdogs" the pool can take the game to united and come out with the 3 points... fingers crossed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭peeve

I wouldnt call us underdogs tbh-as far as i know we'll have a full strength team(of course certain players are out of form but we cant use that as an excuse...well maybe @ 2pm on sunday) whereas utd are missing several of their stars and given our form vs united lately wouldnt that make us favourites and utd the underdogs?

Hmm, for years I dreaded this game then shock, horror! Liverpool
started winning it! This one will be fast and furious I think with loads of errors which will means lots of goalmouth action, with something for everyone. Esp Arsenal. :(

    A draw methinks.

    Mike.

i voted for liverpool but i hope man u can nick it.

I'm surprised at the pole slighltly seeing as Man u have so many big names out.

Should be a cracker tho :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

I think Man U will scrape in with a win.

They'll concentrate on stopping Owen and once that's done the Pool are fairly toothless.

    0-1 Van Nistelcock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Same can be said about Man U & Van Nistelrooy. They wont start VN and Solskjaer.

I reckon that gob****e Smicer'll score and again make it hard for Houllier to offload him... even though everyone knows hes useless.

I can't believe no one's tipped Murphy for a goal! He's got wonderfull knack of popping up in the important games...

I actually hope manure win on Sunday cos the rule of thumb is that whoever loses in Liverpool v ManUre usually ends up taking the title.

I've just subscribed to sky sports for the month to see the match (and arse next week) so utd had better win.

Oops, Liverpool 0 2 Man Utd. About 75 mins gone.

    Mike.

    Liverpool 1 2 Man Utd.

    Both goals from Forlan!!

    Dudeks error again!!!

    All hail Chris Kirkland!!!!

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

A dismal first half a much better second The Mancs can thank Barthez they won that game one of the saves of the season still doesn't beat Cudicinis against Spurs as he was going the other way.
I think its time to give Kirkland the nod thats a few errors now for Dudek and has cost Pool big time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

liverpool were lacking ideas in the 1st half and completley inept for the 1st 25 minutes of the 2nd half.
Only showed promise when they exposed Utds defence late on with lumping balls in between them.

Utd played very well to get something from that game tho ,i wouldnt blame dudek 100% for losing ,i would blame Smicer (what was his job??)
He didnt do anything of use in the game.

    great game for neutrals :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Hate to say it, but I'm beginning to think it's Houllier who's running out of ideas...

...and I hear Capello's on the verge of quitting Roma... :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

i am over the moon!!! :D

I feel sorry for dudek. He's doing similar things to Barthez last season.

Man U finished the game with a 5-5-0 formation hehe.
Liverpool were really piling on pressure.
Man U defence looked fairly sturdy which i was very pleased about.

/me hails neville, brown and silvestre and especially Barthez :D
    O'shea played ok too.

Nistlerooy was very very quiet as was solskjaer.
Forlan looked inefective except for his two goals.

No idea what smicer was doing. Tbh you shoulda started the game with the players you finished with.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

a ****e game IMO but a great performance from Neville. Carragher (sp?) also had a good game. maybe Dudek should have worn a cap but that's still no excuse. it was a shocking error. and Forlan scored 2 goal, WTF is going on there. i hope next Saturdays game will be a bit better than todays. come on Arsenal!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

Ahh was a brilliant game, end to end stuff, liverpool very strong in the first half and I would have put money on them scoring first, but surprisingly uniteds defence held out.

Second half liverpool were on the receiving end for most of it, and they finally cracked with the two goals, couldn't really blame dudek for the first goal, was a woeful header back (by carragher?).. second was a great strike by forlan, around the 80min mark liverpool came back though and puled on the pressure, deserving a goal and agoningly denied by an absolutely brilliant save by barthez.

Neville played a great game imo, bit rough but he was holding the defence together quite well and made one or two crucial tackles.

Looking forward to the Arsenal game anyway.. should be a cracker.

FFS. Im getting myself ready for some slagging for the next say 6 weeks. IMO I dont think Liverpool are having a bad patch, it's Dudek. Does he wana end up like Westerveld because thats the way it's heading at the mo. He hasnt played well in a while. Maybe Im totaly out of order here. But I doubt Houllier will accept that kind of goalkeeping from a first choice keeper. I say give Kirkland a shout.

    What a downer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,148 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

Well im dissapointed obviously as Liverpool fan, but have to hold my hand up and say fair play to Utd. Poor old Dudek has been watching to many of Barthez's greatest moments tapes :D and made a clanger that the bald one would have been proud of. At least Kirkland will now get his chance as imho he is a great keeper and its a shame to see him never get a chance.

Both teams were poor imho, the passing was non existant. It took the dreadful error from Dudek let in Utd where they never looked like scoring themselves. The second goal was a great shot my Forlan, but the keeper shouldnt be getting beaten so often at his near post.

Ah well, its about Utd beat us anyway :p At least everton lost, the thought of them been ahead of us is enough to make my blood turn cold!

The diamond formation imho for Liverpool is a load of toss, lets go back to playing 4-4-2 as tbh its a much more solid formation. Have say:
    Dudek/Kirkland

    Carragher Hyppia Henchoz Traore

    Murphy Gerard/Diao Didi Riise

    Heskey Owen

Replace Traore with Riise when we get Duff :) or some other natural winger as we are more cental than a station!

PS Leeds lost again at home , bye bye Terry.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭jonno

    Houllier has just said

"Chris Kirkland would start the Worthington Cup tie with Ipswich at Anfield on Wednesday night."

"Chris was due to play on Wednesday anyway so he will start against Ipswich. After that we will see what happens."

I think Dudek is a great keeper but maybe he needs a break and let him fight for his place.

    The pool will be back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

After this result I find myself hoping that Man Utd beat Arsenal, thats not right!

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

At the end of the day I don't think the pool deserved to win...

Mistakes caused us the game but I still think Dudek is agood keeper. IMO liverpool need a creative midfielder who can setup goals... theres not enough chances being made for strikers - I too will be hoping Utd. beat Arsenal next week for 1 reason , so they do not get too far ahead of the rest.

On current form I think Liverpool are not title contenders ,hopefully that'll change soon- at the moment ARSENAL are the best team IMO

Ah well roll on the slaggin' in work tomorrow from the UTD. fans :(

Diego Forlán with 2 goals in the 1 match i think he's regained his skills as a striker!!!! PS Man Utd RULE!!!!!!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the game but not the result. Both teams showed lots of respect for each other.
I agree with Jonno ,Dudek is playing poor not the rest of the team.
Hamann was awesome again today as was Murphy. For utd G Neville played out of his skin.Van nistelroy was brutal.Nice to see o shea coming on well.
Overall i think Utd were lucky to win and a draw would have been a fair result.
Oh yeah ,what a save from the little bald man ,stunning.
I dont think the gunners have too much to worry about after today though, they would have destroyed either side .
Congrats to Utd in fairness ,i still think the pool will finish above them again though.
    :)

United deserved to win, they were the better of two poor sides. Silvestre and Neville were good alright, and even Diego Forlorn played alright.

I'm really starting to doubt whether Liverpool will ever get back on top with Houllier in charge. He's been there for five years and they have not progressed. How he manages to take players like Murphy, Owen, Gerrard, Hyppia, Riise, Diouf, Smicer and (the late lamented) Litmanen and produce a team that simply cannot play intelligent football is beyond me. They had no fluency, no invention. Bloody useless

I posted a similair thought some time back and was told I wuz talking rubbish! Well, I fear the one-dimensional approach to
football of Houllier is going to cost the team (when he sold Litmanen I feared the worst), they're not bloody useless but they plainly dont have the wit of Arsenal. Someone will have to be able to tell the manager that winning the title will be much easier if he allows the players to play rather than spoil.

    Mike.

Ye haa, what a day, that was a result I was not expecting to get, especially when we were playin half of the bleedin reserves, I think that we have got a small bit of hunger back.

I really think Houl should stick with Dudek, he has to let the lad get his confidence back, droppin him will kill him. The bald one did the same for us last year and even though I still have little confidence in him his save was top drawer yesterday.

Forlan had a nice finish for the 2nd, Dudek should possibly have saved it but such is.

Best picture was when they showed the woman ballin her eyes out, a classic.

I hope Sir A copes on and leaves larry white and seba on the bench and give the players with balls the chance to get a draw against the arse.

A tale of two Keepers really, very poor by Dudek, cracking save by Barthez from a Hamann stinger.

United deserve the win. thought Liverpool would snatch one at the end but it wasn't to be.

    . I reckon 2-1 to United

Ah i love to say i told you so, never would have had Forlan down for two goals though.
IMO liverpool need a creative midfielder who can setup goals...

You have one in Patrcik Berger but Houllier insists on playin Smicer all the time. Such a player would not be in Houlliers style as he would add nothing to the team defensively. That is why I was glad Duff did not go to Liverpool, I think he would suffer playing for a Gerard Houllier team.

    Fish Dude,

I think the game should have been a draw. There was a time in the second half where liverpool had about 84% possession.

Prolly the only 2 goals forlan is likely to score all season!!!

I have to disagree slightly with GH's tactics a bit. Playing Taore on the wing :/ Was a very enjoyable game to watch.

Hopefully he will show faith in Dudek and stick with him. He's saved our a$$ so many times!!

Anyway not point in crying anymore. Roll on the re-match!!

What.....so what about the other goals he has scored all seaon

He has scored more goals than Heskey has this season with about 1/4 of the playing time

Well I have to say hes done better than both Heskey and Diouf this season. Diouf has been such a waste of cash I think. I was never a fan of him before he came to Anfield, and hes done nothing to change my opinion of him so far.

I think what spanner meant was that it's probably the only brace that Forlan will get all season.
