it's McDonaghs, and yes it is the nicest chipper around

Well being a Cork boyo I'd have to go for Lennox's... I've never been to McDonagh's myself but I have heard a lot of people rave about it so it may well be the best chipper in Ireland.

I'm from Salthill, and I didn't know there was a McDonaghs in Salthill. The only McDonaghs I know in Galway, is at the end of Quay St. in town, and yes it's the best chipper IMO (but I'm more of a pizza person) ;)

    ;-phobos-)

Macaris (?) in Roscommon Town just beaten out by The Seashell off Pearse St. in Dublin. I'm not even sure if the Seashell is there anymore (I saw planning application stuff last time I was there) but man alive it had the greatest chips AND they'd batter a mars bar for you. Fantastic.

Oh my god, is Cunningham's still open in Tramore. I lived in Pinegrove Heights (near the CBS) for a year when I was six (that's twenty years ago!), and I used to love that place. That was the same year that the guy who owned an amusement arcade down by the sea was murdered if those days ring a bell with anyone.

Can you still get blahs in the bakeries there? Is it only Waterford that sells them.

In Galway, I'd have to agree that McDonogh's is the best, with Conlon's on Eglinton Street a close second.

Mmm....Cunninghams - rip off merchants but class chipper. And do you mean Pine Grove near the Holy Cross school?

Up in Dublin I've discovered (much to my backside's discomfort) San Marino in Windy Arbour. Gorgeous chips and chicken fillet burger *drools*

Macari's in Dundrum, superb chips and chicken kebabs

I just discovered Macari's in Dundrum about a month ago. They have the best chips on the planet, BAR NONE! I have never tasted chipper chips as good as these.. none of your pasty, insipid yellow, hard on the inside, damp and warm on the outside chips.. these are crispy, golden brown, piping hot, salty and vinegary and soft as you like in the middle. Superb.

Lennox's on Bandon Road in Cork City. Ask U2 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

    ;)

*edit* oh yeah, and ballybricken IS a kip. Gonorrhea anyone?

Pine Grove is indeed beside HC school - but he said Pine Grove Heights? Possibly just confusion or else there is another estate the far side of town, so long since I lived there... still, remember Cunninghams was pretty sweet though:D

i have to disagree with u there...i live just up the road from them and i wouldnt touch anything outta there, the chips are soggy and there chicken is normally cold, and i hate the rude ignorant staff aswell.

i would reccommend "the premier" in wex town... absolutely gorgeous chicken and onion rings

Walkers in town (Waterford) and Cunninghams in Tramore THE BEST EVER. Their chips are delicious. Love Chicken Fillet Burgers from Danny's in Barrack St. too.

Buckfast (you're username brings back so many vague memories!) - yeah you can still get bla's in Waterford. Most corner shops or supermarkets sell them. Just had a lovely crusty one this morning...

Yeah unreal queues - best time is to go out on a winter's evening and get a box of chips and chicken wing and sit in the car looking at the waves crashing over the pier wall when the tide is in. Then head into Freddies to play a few slots ;) - I'm easily pleased!

Golden Fry on the Ballinlough Rd in Cork gets my vote closely followed by Lennox's.........

jeez, these mcdonaghs and cunninghams oughta be pretty damn good after all this praise. Nonetheless, I must chip in here (cringe) and suggest jokers in greystones. big fat lovely chips, the best half pounder ever!!

Burdocks in Dublin - Christ church. Best I've had anywho!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭Selik

Leo Burdocks for me too with an honourable mention to Borza's in Sandymount village. Not only do Burdocks do the best chips but they also give ridiculously generous portions as well!

    Nyom... :D

for waterford i'd say danny's chicken fillet burgers are a must....but genoas in the square in dungarvan is even better. their chicken fillet burg. are the best ever.....and their curry chip...........yum! only problem is they have very strange opening times and are never open after the nightclub! :(

leo burdocks in dub is great most of the time but their standards dropped over the years....cant stand macaris or roma! yukyukyuk!!!!
