If there is another board for the topic you are about to post, post it there...ie, music on one of the music boards.

It is now a pernament ban.

Do not come crying to me, when you are banned because of this. Its not my fault that you didnt read this.

Im posting this, so that people cant claim they didnt know

Im bringing back the pointless poll rule

If anymore pointless polls are posted, from this date on, the user will be banned from the board...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭Monty - the one and only

Any more threads boasting about post counts will get the thread starter banned for one week.

An example of such a thread would be here

However, there is an exception to this rule from now on. If the post is well thought out, unlike the above thread, no action will be taken against the thread starter.

Im only going to say this once.

Any soccer related thread posted here will be closed. Just because you dont have posting privlages on the soccer board dose not mean you can set up camp in here.
    Threads will not be moved.

Users you continually post scoccer releated threads here, will be given a one week ban from the board.

    You have been warned.

Ive been a little slack on enforcing the rules in here over the last month due to technical problems...

That time has come to an end...

Rules will be enforced at my normal standard, from now on.

I thought you might not have been around when I saw that thread "say what you want" staying open as long as it did...welcome back ;)

Posting "how old/tall/wide/ugly are you?" type pointless threads will incur a similar wrath as pointless polls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Anyone starting a rep thread on After Hours in future will earn a one week ban. Subsequent threads will cause bans to be incremented by a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Right, there's too much crap going on. After Hours is a more relaxed forum, but that doesn't mean it's OK for spamming and general crap.

Stay on-topic. Contribute (although I'll be a little lenient as long as your post isn't ****e.).

Personal Abuse has to stop. If you've nothing better to say than calling the poster above you a retard, then keep your dumb mouth shut. Next person to be caught for personal abuse after I post this, gets a weeks ban. Two weeks for the next after him, and so on. Once the ban reaches a 2 months, all other bans are permanent, no excuses.

    Your friendly nieghbourhood moderator.

I'm implementing a change in the way in which threads are moved.

The point of moving threads is to reduce noise on the forum from irrelevant threads. But the current system leaves a big redirect link in the list, still leaving the problem of there being too many threads in the forum list.

So in future, threads will be moved to the correct forum without the redirect. I'll post "Moved from AH" in the thread, but you won't be able to find it in the After Hours thread list.

Any posts asking "Where has my thread gone?" will be locked and binned without explanation.

If you want to find your threads, use the "All my posts" link on the frontpage www.boards.ie

I'm going to get more aggressive with thread moving.

In an effort to make After Hours a more readable forum[1], it has been decided to apply a policy of zero tolerance for threads which are obviously posted in the wrong forum.

There are a lot of different boards on here, have a glance through the menus. AH users should make an effort to post new threads in the correct forum. This includes newly registered users.

In future, any threads posted that obviously do not belong in After Hours may be locked and moved it to the recycle bin, and the original poster may receive a temporary or permanent ban depending on circumstances.

    Cheers.

    1. As it was when under control of Monty and his reign of terror.

Some common forums that people seem to have difficulty finding:

    Puzzles/Quizzes
    Webgames
I'll be slightly lenient with misposting threads which should have gone in these forums.

Before you post in After Hours, have quick look at the Rec category. At least half of all misposted threads should have gone in a forum that's just a few cm below this one.

    Other forums:
    Computers
    Windows
    Mobiles/PDAs
    Broadband
Gadgets (iPod and mp3 player discussion goes here)
    Music/Radio
Bargain Alerts (this includes Bargain requests, vouchers, etc).
News/Media (if you have something to say about current affairs, it usually goes here)
Soccer (Posting a thread related to soccer on After Hours is a ban, no excuses)
Feedback (Problems and suggestion go here, not in After Hours).

A new board has been opened for discussion of topics of a sexual nature, or regarding sexuality. This board is only accessible to subscribers, but even so, topics that would belong there will no longer be allowed on After Hours, as thay have been in the past. Such topics posted here will be closed, and the thread starter told to subscribe to talk about such matters. Since the line is blurred between what is a topic of a "sexual" nature, and what is just a topic talking about boobies, here are some examples:

What belongs on the new board:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=281930
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=282680
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=274278

What doesn't belong on the new board (and can stay here):
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=260478
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=281661

These threads are not an exhaustive list, rather some brief examples. Definitions of what belongs where, can and probably will change over time.

If you have already subscribed, you can find the board here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=567
If you've subscribed and can't access it (and you should be able to), PM any of the Smods and we will give you access.

A new category has been created: Biz

This contains some older forums moved to this location, but also some new forums, most notably:
    Advertising / Marketing
    Consumer Issues
Online Buying / Auctions (including threads about eBay).

There will be a brief grace period where threads which should go in these forums will be moved with notification, but eventually any misposted threads will be binned, as usual. Please make a note of these new forums.

Afterhours is a cesspit of bad grammar/AOL speak and rubbish threads.

You can fix this. Just like when posting news articles, not commenting or contributing to a thread first will probably get your thread closed.

    What's the best thing....
    What's the worst thing....

And so on. What's the point in posting these threads just to leave the questions unanswered? I will treat these threads as attempts to get a popular thread and will close it.

Before you post, consider the following:

Is what I'm about to post relevant, coherant, funny or in any way interesting?
Does it add to the forum or is it another thread which is taking up space?
    Has it been posted before?
Is it suitable for this forum?

And before you internet-warriors decide to troll a thread remember, you will most likely permabanned. One of the emerging trends is to slag other posters for being nerds, racist, stupid etc etc. Do you really feel the need to post this and probably be banned as a result? You may think you're too cool to post on the internet, but of course you feel the need to do this by posting on the internet. Is it worth it just to create a new account and be wasting your own time persuing stupid agendas just to try get one over on some poster? You may think that everyone is a nerd or whatever, but if you are creating new accounts just to try piss off other posters maybe you have some issues yourself.

If you are posting, try and include as much information about the thread you are posting as you can. This includes making the thread legible. There are no strict rules to grammar on boards.ie, but taking time to use spell check and proper punctuation means the difference between a rubbish thread which will be closed to a thread which will make your thread popular.

    TXT SPK:
You are not 5 years old, I presume you have learnt basic English and to use text speak undermines this. Any subject matter can be made to look idiotic just by using text speak, please stop this!

PLEASE STOP POSTING USELESS THREADS! And this place will be a hundred times better. If these general guidelines are ignored, the response will be to increase scrutiny on these issues. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Just a word on quoting articles.

If an article is copyrighted please don't cut and paste all of it into a post. That means we have to clean up your post. If you want to refer to an article please quote an extract and link to the article in it's original location. Quoting single lines is fine, but you should link to the original article.

Another thing. If you have just signed up and are new to messageboards, try lurking before posting. This will help you get the feel for the place. I recommend a week before posting your own threads.

    Here's a nice one.

    The Crazy Catch All:

Trying to be smart and get around the rules on a technicality will be frowned upon.
