Perhaps someone should consider setting up a Boards.ie group for:

    http://www.ud.com/home.htm

Its a cancer research project, similar in style to Seti@Home.

Maybe we can get some serious stomping going Sickboy.

I was in OCUK's team for lack of a serious Irish team, but the fun they have trying to catch other teams etc is great.

Shinji, how are you managing to complete units in half the time as me ?

    4) Shinji 46 1516 hr 23 min 32 hr 57 min 54.7 sec
    5) TinCool 20 1318 hr 50 min 65 hr 56 min 33.0 sec

I'm running it on 3 pcs. One's a p3-650, one's a celeron700 and the other is a crappy p2 something or other. My average time on a unit on the p3-650 along is always 40-50 hours. I'll have to go out and buy a 1.4ghz athlon to get my unit time down smile.gif

If your serious about getting more WU's done in less time then dump the GUI screen saver approach and download the command line client here which can process a WU far quicker. Also get SETI Driver here. SETI Driver can cache work units and makes it very easy to use the command line client. All you need really is a folder called SETI and both the command line client and SETI Driver in that folder. Create a shortcut to SETI Driver in the startup folder and Bobs your uncle.

Jesus, I dont know what the hell's the story here but my first WU is 37% done and its taken 16 hours!

Bit bizarre on an Athlon 1ghz, 256 megs of RAM and Win2k Pro...

I know BugBlaster uses an AMD system(not sure but I think its a 700MHz Athlon) and he is completing WU's in just less than 15hrs.

SETI: I joined up, still have not finished my first batch (50% there). Great idea, I used to do it a year or two ago and put in alot of time on my old PB166.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,551 ✭✭✭SickBoy

Magwitch, can you not remember your old login? How many work units had you done on the old account?

There must be something really fuxx0r3d with your PC. Even with the GUI screensaver client it should still take no more than 16 hrs for a p3650 to complete a WU. My average time is 10:30 or something with seti driver and thats on a p3-600!!!!!!!!!!!

Same for Robbo, should be far better than this.

My machine is performing well in every other aspect, so it really is beating the hell out of me.

Maybe if I reinstall the bugger.

We could still do with some new members to boost the totals (and also give me some competition biggrin.gif)
Comon, close to 4000 registered users here and only 16 Boards.ie SETI members...
Update: we now have 18 members...

Is there any cunning way of comparing how Boards.ie is doing in the overall team rankings? I know we don't have a huge number of members (get signing up you slackers!) but it'd be cool to see how we're ranked nonetheless...

All that info is available to the group founder. Comon TinCool get the finger out! Post some stats & stuff...

    Very nice:)
With the 1.4ghz Athlon that avarage time should drop real fast but the 386 should balance that with its 300hours/WU :D

Since United Devices appear to be researching anthrax cures instead of cancer now, I think I will come back to seti :)

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Gerry, you can just edit your default profile and select only the cancer research project... which is what I have done...

i am currently signing up to add my P4 1.3Ghz 128MB RD RAM to help

Thanks for that Gerry.... btw, got an UD newsletter this morning which says that the anthrax one is now over.. so you could at least keep the cancer one going till it ends...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Lucifer

i am running a P4 1.3 Ghz with 128 RD Ram and my first Data is on 93.7% after 18hrs 36 mins 20 sec. should they take this long, or have i not got it set up rite???

EDIT: running Win2K Pro and 56K modem (if this makes any difference)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,551 ✭✭✭SickBoy

Lucifer.POD, read the first page of this thread, there's some good tips on improving the performance of the client on that. A P4 1.3 should do a work unit in under 5hours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Lucifer

one other thing, do i have to uninstall the current seti prog before installing the command 1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭Cerberus

I've added myself to the group now. I'm knocking them out :D on average once every 5 hours so it should be a help. My first 2 took ages for some reason but I installed the command line and now its flying it.

can any1 give me any tips on what settings to use in the SETI driver?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,551 ✭✭✭SickBoy

I have SETI Driver set to cache what I've calculated to be 7 days worth of work units on each machine. If your doing a WU in 6 hours then 24/6=4x7=28.
    I think I'll patent that formula :D
The other settings are more for systems with 2 or more CPU's...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Lucifer

does anybody else have problems connecting to the server other than oj? coz mine takes forever, i keep trying, and eventually it works?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

Right, I finally got signed up :D

Now all I gota do is wait for them to mail me my password...

Do you hvae problems always logging in, or trying to sign up?

I had massave problems trying to sign up..
But I'm signed up now, its doing whatever shíte its doing...

Maybe it could be problems with our routers on NTL Lucifer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Lucifer

you need the password 2 join the boards team, but u can start processing information straight away

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny
