Ghost Rider used to be great.

Anyone see it when he teamed up with X-Men to beat the <wracks brains> Brood I think. One of the first trade paperbacks I ever read.

    Human-Torch, Wonder-man, Hercules, Spider-m@n, Sub-Mariner, Wolverine She-Hulk , Storm, Scarlet Witch or Xavier.

Well seen that Human Torch is the original Marvel hero, I would have picked him but I'll vote for Spiderman instead.

    Yea. Except that he isn't.

    Wolverine.

No you're right he isn't. Galactus would out power him as he GAVE him the powers. And Galactus has been outpowered by other entities of the Marvel universe, and outsmarted.

If you were talking a blow by blow power v power struggle it would come down to a couple of those choices. Wolverine is AMLOST imortal due to his healing factor. Ghost Rider is as the term says - ghostly powered, Thor is a god and Silver Surfer is a glactic force, but don't forget one person.

    Iceman

In his ice form Iceman is almost indistructable as he can reconstruct himself from his shattered parts. This outdoes Wolverine definately. He can also (due to "Age of Apocalypse") teleport himself and due to the pre Age of Apolcalypse series has shown, he can, with a thought freeze every molecule in a beings body.

Only psychics seem to be able to defend against this assault. And as none of the others are psychic and don't possess the powers to defeat Iceman at his full potential, I would have to say Iceman PWND J00!!! hehehe

When all my mates were into Superman (being the time that all the films were coming out) and us being somehwere around 5-7 years of age, I was always into Spiderman, so he gets my 1st choice :)

2nd fromt hat list would be Wolverine

The most powerful marvel characters are rarely seen, and rarely used characters like Destiny, Fate, and The Infinites.
Since their not on the list, they probably don't count. Myself i'm disappointed Gambit isn't there, as at full power he's pretty damn powerful as well, and he's never reached it, even in the coming episodes, he doesn't reach full power.
I mean someone who could look at you, and dissolve every molecule in your body in an instant, physic or not has to be in contention!!!!!
Also psyhics have a damn hard time against him cause of his molecular make up, and mutant powers.
But if I had to pick a fave from the list I to would have to pick the Iceman.
    He rulez!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 Lordy

Please dont forget the Punisher :)

As seen in The Punisher vs the Marvel Universe, he can outsmart and kill just about every other super "hero" there ...

And if we're talking about best "character" I must admit, Ennis writing him has certainly raised the Punisher in my opinion.

Although I do like Bendis' take on Ultimate Spiderman ...

Wolverine, anyone see "Origin," in the latest "Wolverine and Gambit" comics, l33t!

He is sooo class in Ultimate x-men, Magneto in Ultimate x-men has to be one of the coolest marvel villians, he is soooooo evil it's unreal.

Anyone know when "the ultimates" are being realesed? I assume after the Weapon X storyline in Ultimate X-men...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭TheSonOfBattles

    Yes, yes I have.

That's been the only really good wolverine story in a long while. Read the first few issue's of the Ultimates online when marvel.com was still doing dot comics, they're class, but i'd say it'll be a while before they reach our fair shores, because the americano's are still only on like issue 12 or so.

The Ultimates book 1 is already released over here. Should be in Forbidden Planet or Sub City (therea a fiarly good chance it will be sold out though)

Otherwise try online like amazon.com (you have to love the weakness of the dollar at the moment) or marsimport.com

Will take a while to get out, but is slightly cheaper than buying them over here (especially if you buy two or three)

And now to get back on topic, the Ultimates version of the Marvel heros are pretty cool too - Captain America especially in my opinion is much improved ... and Samuel L Jackson doing Nick Fury gets an 8 in the funk factor too ...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 51 ✭✭Eden

Shouldn't there be a none of the above option?
Anyway, I say Gambit, coz it's true what has been said about him not reaching his true potential (and never will either, I think) Plus he's just so damned cool!
Other than that... hmm... Rogue, Spiderman, Angel, Nightcrawler and er, I know I shouldn't but what the heck... Apocalypse!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭TheSonOfBattles

Finally, another gambit supporter. Was beginning to think i was all alone out there.

He's back in the american comic's again soon I think, in x-treme x-men. Can't wait till they're released here. To cheap and lazy an broke to buy 'em on import, so have to play the waiting game.

That may be but he still doesn't have the proportionate strength and agility of a spider does he :P

Mr. Sinister rules when it comes to regeneration and all that. He gets his brains blown out and still manages to kick that pussy bishop's ass ffs!(X-cutioners song)

Though my favourite bad guy is Apocalypse....maybe its that funky blue armour....

He didnt give a s**t about anyone

Not going to be fat... just a little thicker around the waist! It suits him! He's not as wiry as he used to be. Too many pizza nights in with Rogue?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭TheSonOfBattles

Ah, the joys of the romantic life huh! A chubby tummy formed of stomach ulcers from useless worrying. Joy!!! :D

Gambit's best look i've ever seen has to be when he was drawn by Andy Kubert(at least I think that's who it was) way back in X-Men 45, especially when he bursts through the wall of the bar to help out Iceman. He looks really rough, dark, and the red eye's and angry face really make him look kewl. Nothing else has compared to it. He looked much darker and more mysterious and well, plain better back in those days. Not the cutsey, nice boy he's drawn as these days. Even Wolverine get's that kinda treatment sometimes, which is a shame, cause characters like that don't really fit with that kinda look. The new cover looks fairly cool though. Can't wait till his back.

And do you think Spidey would have been able to stop the titanic?

Wolverine is a cool character, I agree. It's a pity most writers abuse the chance they get when they're writing him. Most of the stories i've read for him are pretty much the same rubbish.

Something along the lines of dumb badguy decides to attack/lure to attack wolvie for no good reason. Seems to be doin well. Wolvie gets mildly injured. Get's back up. Kicks bad guys ass. End of story.

This does deviate every now and again, stories such as Origin prove he can be used well, and be a brilliant character. But far to often writers fall into a lazy trap of: "wolvie's life is in danger, wait nevermind, he isn't/ wolvie goes of to discover his past, guess what, he discovers nothing/wolvie has to rescue a loved one, oh look he's done it without any bother." Most of the last year or two's stories from Wolverine and Gambit can be slotted into these pigeon hole stories. Some people may not like Gambit, but at least his stories are constantly differant, and each issue is only part of something much bigger.

Before anyone says it, I don't hate Wolverine, and don't start a flame war please. I'm just protesting the rubbish way he's being written most of the time.

Hahahahaha you are so right with that. Those are exactly the same stereotypical plot lines of nearly every wolverine story since before even issue 50. I would love to see something new and I think the whole 'Wolverine is Death' line in X-men around the time of the 12, was an excellent change.

I don't really mind the story lines of wolverine finding out about his past because it's always what a fan wants more of, but as you say, the fact that he doesn't find anything out is a bit annoying. If they gave him more to find out then it would be sweet. I also liked when they took his powers and made him actually have to fight, and bleed! It added a new depth to the character.

I think the idea most writers come up with are based around the fact that wolverine won't die. Can't die, so lets just throw an entire book at him then end it with him not dying.

    Yeah...
    *
They have through origins found out he was born to a wealthy family at the turn of the century and his name is James. He had a man working for him and his son, they were called Logan. When wolvie was about 10-12 (I think it was that age) an argument broke out where Logan senior was fired. He came back for justice and shot james (wolvie) who obviously came back to life and killed Logan senior when his claws first manifested themselves. Logan senior had also killed James (wolvie's) father. Escaping, James and a red haired maid ran away and lived together for a few years. James fell in love with her (see obvious infatuation with Jean Grey) but he couldn't tell her. Over time he felt more at home in the forest with the animals and began giving into his animal rages. The maid fell in love and married a local man which james couldn't take. I can't remember the rest but I think she died after an argument or something.

Anyway....come forward a few years and he was in the war as an operative, after the second world war he was recruited by a military organisation along with sabertooth and Maverick. On a mission where they had to rescue someone, Sabertooth killed the person they were trying to rescue so as to be able to escape. The 3 of them jumped from a high story window and should have died, but wolvie and sabertooth had their healing powers, and Maverick absorbed the fall and turned it into energy. Because of this the 3 of them along with others, were later recruited for the weapon X project. Wolvie had adamantium laced to his bones and as he did his claws showed themselves again. The scientists thought his claws were created as a side effect to the procedure, that his body was fighting back. They didn't know they were already there. So they spent ages brainwashing him and the other weapon X project specimens into thinking they had a different past life. They made up stories which included Silver Fox as his love interest, and Maverick as his best friend (afaik). But wolvie escaped and killed everyone he saw except the professor and his assistant (he just cut his arm off as he escaped) and spared a guard outside but horribly mutilated him (who later came back and tried to kill wolvie).

In the meantime wolvie went treking around the world. He trained with a master in marshal arts and weapons training and fell in love with a woman in japan (I think it was japan). I'm sketchy on details as I have to refresh my memory on this story at times. I don't know which came first, if he trained first then went to madripoor and lived there as Patch for a few years, or if he went there first and trained later. He might have even trained before the weapon X deal but I don't think so. I think the training if I remember correctly was to supress his animal rages as well.

Anyway while he was in love with her a giant dragon attacked their home and knocked down the building ontop of wolvie's love. She died and he began a feud with some waring factions there.

I can't keep all of this in order but I know generally some of the facts. He joined alpha flight as a canadian secret agent a bit like the avengers of canada. He left them because of a love rift if I remember correctly.
    *End Spoiler*

Actually most of the stuff i'm having trouble remembering especially in chronological order, but when I get a re-read of the stuff sometime i'll come back and straighten this post up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭weemcd

thanks for that :) i would never be able to catch up on all the xmen stuff, much like other comics :)
that stuff is really interesting to me so thanks for the time taken to write that
