€340 per calendar month. Which is a great deal considering the size of the gaff and my room and the area.

I live in a 4 bed house with two other guys (the fourth is our spare for guests). One of the guys owns the place and then me and Scatz pay €250 each per month plus bills. It's out in Leixlip so 45 mins on the bus and you're in town, plus close to college in Maynooth. Plus, the house is beautiful. All wooden floors, deep rich colours everywhere, beanbags, foutons, sculptures, Cuban paintings...it rocks.

All the same, am I the only person who just absolutely longs to live alone? Apart from my bf, I don't think there's anyone that wouldn't get under my skin just a smidge.

Or maybe, if I owned the place it would be better. I think renting just makes me feel like I have no real home. Why are houses so damn expensive?

    *me sobs

hmm... well living in bilbao at the moment and i pay €210 per month. its a bit expensive for here but its a really nice place if a bit small. think the average for here is round €180-200 for a decent place.
but aahhhh was kind of thinking of moving out when i go back to dublin this summer... not any more:(

That's the thing about the € - it allows you to directly compare prices between different parts of Europe and you may not like what you see!

On an anthropological level, human nature is to be alone, the problem is we then get bored, we then crave company.

On a societal level, it is essential for us to live in communities to provide mutual support - eg the mechanic repairs the doctor's car who heals the hairdresser's broken arm who styles the teacher's hair .... and so on.

On a household level, sharing a household means that bills and chores can be shared (well thats the idea), thereby reducing the cost of living, e.g. a two person household only costs 50% more to run than a one person household (taking unpaid work into account also).

I pay 160 Euro per month, I share the house with one guy and one girl. We all have a room to ourselves.

No electricity, no heating bills , the land lord pays the rest.

I wish we could have more people in the house
    :)

    Hmmm
I was a mechanic and I cut my own hair!!

Boycott hairdressers unless your a woman, buy an electric shaver and shave your head but I look like an ugly Triad!!!

sheesh - I pay 380 euro plus bills and I live out in the Tallaght boondocks. A real crap area at that. I have my own room and adjoining bathroom, but the house is a little under-furnished. I dont have a mirror in my bathroom or a towel rack. Makes for great shaving misses. I need to get closer to town which brings up another issue.. transportation (purchase price, insurance, and license oh my) - ugg.

1,140 EUR for a 2 bed apartment in Monkstown on the coast road (close to DART station).

This apparently is a red hot bargain as avg 2 bed apt. rent anywhere in the same area is approx 1,500 EUR

.....We're emigrating to Australia in August, and the cost of renting in this city has a lot to do with that decision ;-)

Victor, I actually study anthropology and apparently, it is not within our nature to want to be alone. Although, we've probably simply read conflicting ideas on the subject.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other (for once!:)) I think anthropology is a pile of horse's crap anyway. :D
