This is going to be/is already a sticky where it would be helpful if you posted up details of insurance company's with a few details about them, and hopefully we can make a list containing every insurance company in Ireland and try and get insurance a bit cheaper for the ppl of Ireland?

if you can fill in the details in categorys such as below it will be easy to follow, please feel free to add also.

I'll get the show on the road with...

    Company Name: Quinn Direct

    Tel. No.: 1850 77 1850

    Web: www.quinn-direct.com

    E-mail: services@quinn-direct.com

Details: their headquarters being in Cavan and another building on O' Connell st. Quinn Direct are a pretty good company to insure with and seem to be quite good for the younger driver seeing as most companys won't even give quotes to under 22's.

This isn't a debate just a list of companys, if you want a debate start a new thread about your problems/thoughts.

    Cheers
    Farls.

    F.B.D insurance plc (www.fbd.ie)
They usually will only insure cars if you have a house or business insurance cover with them aswell.
Mainly used by Farmers/Publicans, but in recent years they accept others, but as I say only usually if you have a house or business with them.
    Offices in most counties

In Dec 2000 at the age of 24, 2 years no claims, full licence 2 months, I got insured on an MGF. No company in Ireland would quote me.

However First Ireland in Phibsboro quoted me £1650 punts 3rd pty f&t, through a company called ARB (who I think are a Llyods of london company). I thought at the time this was quite good, because up to that point I had been paying £2250 punts on a 1.3L civic with AXA. Losers.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass on the tip. I haven't found them to be outstanding with other quotes but for some reason they are much cheaper than anyone for my MGF.

Ok Ive just got in touch with the Insurance Ombudsman of Ireland and got a bit of Info which might be useful to anyone seeking car insurance.

On this website www.entemp.ie/cr/bluebook.htm there are tables of insurance companies who are licensed to underwrite insurance here.
Most of the names would be ones that you recognise but some of them are companies who do not have offices here but are still licensed to insure clients here in Ireland.
What the Ombudsman has told me is that if you can get one of these EU based companies to insure you then you can save thousands of € in insurance costs.I havent actually rang any of them yet as Im not in the market for insurance at the moment but if anyone does get in touch with one of these companies then could they please post it here. This is all above board and just because the company does not have offices here then it doesnt mean they cant insure you.
This is apparently because the law which excluded insurance companies from operating in Ireland has expired since January but not many people know about it.Some of the companies websites are in EU languages and Im not fluent in any other language.
Hopefully this info helps all those paying through the nose for insurance.
    Richie.

Them being licensed to insure here, and willing to insure here is quite different. 2 words spring to mind for me - Corporation Tax. Ireland having a ridiculously low rate of corporation tax, many companies locate their head offices here, and we're especially popular with insurance companies. Whether they'll insure or not is another matter entirely..... I'd ring some of them if I had time. There (apparently, it's Ireland though) is going to be a large investigation into companies registered for Corpo Tax over here - ie if you're not trading in Ireland, no low tax for you. So we may see some insurance companies begin to offer rates over here, but it'll probably be very limited.

On a different note found this site this morning

If its brokers your looking for this has a list of every broker in ireland and you can email your details to them and they should get back with a quote....saves ringing around IMO

Try Marsh (formally Marsh and McGlennin) on 01-6048100. Ask them for the Eagle star group scheme. I've been with them for about 5 years and they always under quote everyone else. I'm 28 full licence for 7 years/7 years no claims. Fully comp on my 01 1.4 golf was €850 this year.

Does anybody know of any Insurance companys that will Insure a 19 year old driver on a 49cc Moped, My little brother on a prov licence is going to pay 1400 Euro to Hibernian on Monday for 3rd party Insurance on the said Moped. I think this is wildly excessive for what after all is a Hairdryer thay will barely do 30mph.

****ing hell, when I was 16 (4 yrs ago) I was only paying IR£260 insurance on a 50cc moped. At the moment I'm paying 940 euros for third party insurance on a 125. Madness.

I am on my mothers policy, and i rang our insurance company for a quote to change from our 1995 Mazda 323f 1.5L to a 1994 Honda Integra 1.6L and the girl on the phone said it would go up by €410 over the year, i said fine and bought the Integra. The letter soon came out in writing and they had suddenly changed the quote, which was now gone up by €410 until the policy is up in July, so in otherwards thats an extra €1200 over the year, i then rang the insurance company asking why they had told me one price and changed it to another........."sorry sir i can't help you its gone up by €1200" This has me really pissed off over the way they have treated us and am wondering if this has happened to anyone else? and is there any way of actually getting the quote they gave me in the first place?

The problem here is you assumed the extra was for another whole year wheras insurance companies will only quote you till the end of the currect policy if you are changing vehice etc. Case of crossed wires me thinks!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 pejwright

no definately not crossed wires, because i know they only usually quote till the end of the policy, but when i was getting the quote i asked the girl if that was definately the amount extra over the year...........i made sure to double check that when i was asking, it suould be only an extra €133 or so till the end of the policy! They are just trying to rip me off.............they tried it before with us by uping the policy at renewal last year they wanted to put it up from €1800 to €3800 for absolutely no reason, and this was on the Mazda. I told them to take me off the insurance and one month later i rang back to get back on the policy and they only wanted €1900............try and figure that one out!!!! This just proves they are pulling figures out of a bag.......there no structure to the system at all!

For people over 25 driving motorbikes, Carole Nash an English broker offers insurance in Ireland supposedly a lot cheaper than the Irish brokers

I wouldn't be so paranoid about it. I really doubt they're out to specifically rip YOU off. Of course there's a structure to their system- they have software to calculate the risk. Do you honestly think the sales reps just pull random figures out of their heads to annoy you. I know insurance companies are d*cks, but they aren't complete gobsh*tes like you seem to think, who just make up figures for people and run a company with absolutely no system in place.

It sounds like she did give you the right figures, and you just weren't listening properly.

Doesn't mean that the software isn't written to rip you off... :)

    Hi,
my policy was up on the 18 of april 03 and because of the glorious weather that week I was on the 400 and didn't notice the expiry until good friday afternoon. I logged on to Hibernian, tailored the policy to suit my needs(all legally tailored!!) and got a quote of 622.40 yo-yo's .. last years quote from a broker through Hib. was 1380 so I was well chuffed ... requested the policy details to be posted out and chose the Direct debit route(10 months @62.24) .. I recieved no renewal letters whatsoever from broker but low and behold today recieved a notice that they "were delighted to inform you the policy was automatically renewed for a premium of 1,242.60(10 months @124.26) and the D.D was been sought again through Hib.The only diff. in quotes was my fiancee as a named driver on my online quote. I rang the broker and gave them the exact details I had submitted myself online and the best they could do was 882. So some one is getting out the golden saddle somewhere along the line and shafting the lot of us. My premium has averaged 1467.50 for the last 4 yrs and I've just hit the magic 30 yrs this year, no convictions, full lcse, 4yrs NCB

    Hi,

Did anyone bought an insurance online ? Hibernian s website can insure you in 5 mn.

    Is it reliable ?

How can they check the information is correct ?
(They really ask a few questions, how about driving licence nb, former insurance proof etc ..)

Also, when they ask if you have an EU licence, I suppose they mean a licence that come from any country within the EU ?

(I just learnt about International licence ...)

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 3,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭LFCFan

I've gotten my insurance from Hibernian online and when I rang up it was the exact same quote. Once you've filled in all your details and chosen your method of payment they send you out the quote which is valid for 30 days. I just sent off mine this morning. Saved €800 on what Quinn Direct said my renewal was so I am more than happy with Hibernian right now

"How can they check the information is correct ?"

They don't actually care if the information is incorrect. Many people are driving around with policies that are null and void, should the insurance company do a check in the case of them claiming.

Ah Mr White... though thou art banned...

<and rightly so by our benevolent rulers>

The only English compny I've come across who do insurance in Ireland is Carole Nash.

Unfortunatley so, too, because, some of the English companies advertise the fact that they insure you even if you have had a claim (as I have had recently).

I just have to sit on my tod, until I turn 24 before I can get reinsured after my claim.

Advice: Never, admit culpability in an accident scenario.
    Ever.

    www.arb.ie

They insure specialised cars, high risk drivers ( convictions/accidents ), they quote for most risks as long as it aint unreasonable ie, a 17 year old on a skyline. 20 is the minimum age by the way.

They also have a young drivers scheme running at the moment, im insured by them and have the criteria. No trackers/driving lessons etc.

    Age : 20 - 25
    License: Full or Prov
Car: Must be 98 or newer ( possibly 97 ) and up to a group 10
Experience: Any, but usually are only competitive for people with 1 years named driving, or 1 year NCB. Very competitive if you have been a named driver for a number of years.
Occupation: Office/factory based, anyone in allied trades, builders/plumbers/electritians etc MUST be insured on a Commercial vehicle as well.

    If you fit in, 01-4061614

    My Quote?
21, full license for 4 years, 4 years as a named driver on my mums policy, living in dublin, office based, im paying €2000........ On a 1999 2.0 Vtec Honda Accord! Fully Comp as well.

Ok, yea i do work for them, but thats the price without my staff discount.
    :D

Sorry if this is classed as advertising moderators.

    Hi Jeff
this is Neil who bought the OZ's off you:D . I used to be with ARB. One thing, if anyone is having ANY dealings with them, keep all your receipts, even for previous years.

I had insurance w/ARB thru a broker who went bust and never paid them. Nothing was said till 2 days after I paid my next premium, when I was informed of the situation. I was given 2 weeks to prove I had given the other company the money or else have my insurance cancelled, they would take the money from my new premium, and hand me the change. The bank said it would take up to 3 weeks to retrieve a photocopy of my bank draft from Cavan. When I told ARB this they wouldn;t extend the deadline. Same thing happened to 50 others so be wary they are not exactly customer-orientated.

You got a a deadly deal I must say but always shop around. They quoted me 1800 and I got it from soemone else for 1200.

    Cheers
    Neil

Recently got quote from FBD. They were hands down more competitive than all the others.

I actually received a far cheaper for a 2L with them than I had for my renewal on a 1.4L with all the major companies.

    I would recommend them highly.

I recently got insured with Hibernian. In total it cost me €1650 for cover first time in my own name- Fully comprehensive on a 1.3litre.I have a full licence. Originally they wanted €3750 but i kept checking around and everytime i got a better quote i kept going back to them and they would offer me an ever cheaper price than the competitor. In the end the prmium was €2195 then I done their Igniotion Course (peice of piss anyone with any driving experience will pass) and got another 20% off excellent.
