Depends on the job. I know after I took my LC results of my CV I was all of a sudden asked for them. Do you have other qualifications? if so they are possibly more important. You don't need your JC results.

Do you have a third level qualification? If so, reduce them to 2/3 lines:

Leaving Certificate 2005, St Joe of Bloggs Community College
English, Irish, Maths, Geography, History, Physics, Spanish
    6 Honours, 1 Pass

If you don't then I suppose you should leave them in fully.

    Hi there,

It's been a good while since I've done a CV, and I was looking for some tips. Looking at it now, I think maybe it's a bit too busy and full? All advice welcome, thanks!

    J.

P.S. Please excuse my crude attempts to hide personal details! :)

I'm helping a mate do up his CV, but the last time I did one was in 2004*. So I've been doing some research and a lot of websites say you should tailor your CV for each job.
For a start, is that necessary?
Secondly, I see a lot of people have a bit about themselves or what they are hoping to find at the start of the CV, again, that was never what I was taught, but things move on. For the record my CV looks like:
Personal details; Name, address, DOB, phone number, email
    Education; schools/colleges
    Work experience; Title, Role, responsibilities
    Volunteer work
    Interests
    References

Should there be anything else in it? Should you use your CV as a selling tool and have that bit at the start?

*I've had a lot of jobs since, but I get hired through recommendation/word of mouth

Guys - we're got a (admittedly biased) great CV templates + tips section on our homepage, all free of charge.

The bit about ones self at the start seems to be the alternative to a cover letter. I think it's worth doing if you think what you have to say adds value to the CV but I wouldn't do it if I had a cover letter. Personally I wouldn't go without it in my CV because I think it is important to detail my personal reasons for applying for a job and/or why I'm suited to it.

This could be completely wrong others will say so, but just because your waiting for a reply after 14 views.

Your C.V. seems to take the part of Cover letter as well as CV. I think you better off leaving the reasons why you are applying for a job in the cover letter. No need for a personal statement IMO.

I think your work experience should be on a page of its own rather then having it on the one page with your Educational and Personal Details and then on the next. Maybe move your skills up to page one and work experience starting on page 2.

You don't need to state the number of points you got in the LC, as you are saying you have a certain number of higher, lower and common levels, you may as well mention what subjects you did. Maybe use a table if you want to give full results of the LC, but at this stage its not necessary.

The layout could be better e.g. Use headings instead of bold, and change the font of headings (show you can use Microsoft Word).

Sorry, if I am savaging it.

Sorry to disagree with last poster to some extent and probably just confuse you more but I think a statement of some sort is important in every CV. Its just a quick personal statement for the reader to get a feel for the whole CV and to attract their attention. I had a few mins and rejigged your CV a bit (attached - hopefully format works ok, I don't have MS Word). I would be interested to hear what you/other people think of it as a bit of an experiment for myself too!! Good luck with the job hunting!

    I have to dissagree lol

Nah but I just don't like the use of word. Using lines to draw under headings????? Why when you have the use of _______________ and then press enter ???? Perhaps I am just being fussy.

Here is Anon CV. If you want a personal statement then perhaps it should be added. (If it is a case between personal statement and the final year statement, I'd agree and go with the personal statement, but mention your Dissertation in the education portion of your CV).

Just a quick question, do I add the subjects I did in college to a cv?
