Neither if I'm lucky, Burger King if I have to pick one, the food there actually isn't all that bad, whereas McDonalds has no taste, and I can't eat a whole meal without feeling sick any more.

    eh... neither really...

but if pushed, I'd always choose BK over McD's.

The burgers are nicer there... better way of cooking them (the "flame grilling" they refer to), the fries stay hotter longer, and the Chicken Royale with Cheese (apart from sounding like a Pulp Fiction inspired name...) is actually quite nice!

    :D

Seans Chipper, Shercock, Co. Cavan. The best chipper in Ireland.

    Then theres Burger King...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭phaxx

Again, neither. If I'm in town I'll have a Subway (nyom!) a big fat dripping O Brien's sandwich (nyom!) or go to Eddie Rockets. (Milkshakes are great)

Butlers do great hot chocolates. :)

Both BK and McD's suck hard. I find that the local chipper style places have MUCH nicer food. Joe's Take Away in Kilkenny bloody rules :D

Yes, but the question is ... Mc Donalds or Burgerking. I don't see an option there for "Timmy-joes fish and chips in Chapelizod!!
As for my choice, it has to be BK.... bacon double cheeseburgers..... shplendid :D

What is it about Irish boys and their chippers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 875 ✭✭✭EvilGeorge

Can't stand the burger king fries - they either taste weird or I'm too use to the mcDonalds ones.

But their burgers a nice :)

Burger King rocks! The burgers are the best! So good at soaking up alcohol! Did everyone hear about the burger king at the end of Grafton St? It burned down! On the same nite the Liffey overflowed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,549 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

My vote goes with BK. Only peeve is the fact that when you're in there, you hear the constant PING of the microwaves as they reheat the burgers..

At least in Microsoft (oops, MacDonalds), all of the Burgers are fresh..

    Microsoft, MacDonalds, what's the difference...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

    McDs.
The burgers in BK taste burnt (at least they do here) and the chips are woeful. The chips are nice-ish in McDs and the big mac is alright (maybe cos it has so much sauce?). Love the apple pies tho.

But when u do have that rare occassion when the burger had just been cooked its just sex! Theirs nothing tastier that a freshly cooked XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger!

I will admit Eddie Rockets does rock but I haven't been there in a while. I miss the chilli fries, the Atomic Burger and the Milkshakes.

we only got an abra and mcd's in good 'ol clonmel, but if if i have a choice (ie im not here) then i'd go to BurgerKing. burgers dont make you hungrier after you've finished with them like in McD's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭schrodinger

I'm starving now reading all this! All I can think about is burgers!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,193 ✭✭✭Kix

    Hmmmm....

    Vegetarian perspective:

McD's Veg Delux (barf!) vs. BK's Beanburger (yum!)

Guess it'd have to be BK. But we don't have one in Galway. Why!? We deserve it!

    K

It needs a third option cos I wouldn't normally go to either.

And Joe's Take Away in Kilkenny Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ditto :)

Yeah I like BurgerKing, nicer burgers, specially the chicken.

Nice to have once in a while but **** after a long time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭bonkey

    BK by choice.

McD by necessity - BK dont exist in Switzerkland, nor do "chippers" in general.

I have the key to this problem of "warm" burgers, but not just cooked hot. You have to ask for something non-standard, like say extra gherkins, or extra cheese, or no ketchup... you get the idea. Nine times out of ten they'll have to cook a new burger fresh and so you get a lovely hot, just cooked lump of meat :) It's a five minute wait but it's worth it....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭schrodinger

I must remember that one. Thanx. ;)

Nahh Eddie Rockets still is the best... chicken burger, bacon and cheese fries (or garlic fries if I dont have female company) and a choc malt... yuuummmm... :p

At last that hole called Planet Hollywood is gone...
what a waste of time and money going into that place...

If ya going to do this, don't do what my brother did! He goes up to order a burger, he orders extra onions and just asks for a plain one for me. So he gets a lovely hot burger and my burger has been waiting to be bought and an extra 5 minutes waiting on getting his hot burger. grrr. Sufficely to say I don't let my brother order for me any more!

The BURGER part in Burgerking is nice.. flame grileld but i prefer what you get in a bigmac.. also prefer the size of the drink and the chips.. Burger king is skimpy with everything else..

i try not to eat at either of them though! not good for you and all that.. and Macdonalds sometimes stick a load of salt on their chips and thats VERY bad for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Jaden

    Burger King Good.

    Better than McD's.

No BK in Galway though. Damn you Supermacs, damn you to hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭schrodinger

I hate Supermacs! It sucks so much!

If i had to choose i would choose McD, i like ordering 2-3 of the plain burgers with fuck all in them. Last time i had a burger in BK i felt violently ill after it and have never gone back.

I'd still rather go to a good chipper though.

the chicken burgers and fries are far superior in BK than MickyD's

altough i prefer the one inbetween them both on o connell street...Eddie Rockets!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

Yeah McD's is superbland but sometimes that's what I crave. And I find McD's generally cleaner and with better service.

But a whopper with cheese versus a quarter with cheese. No contest BK all the way. Chips are nicer too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Actually I had the same kind thing, which probably explains why I hate BK's so much. Bad memories.
Getting ill for a day cos of a bad cheeseburger there was not nice. The amount of mustard they put on it. Urgh.

I'm sorry but Burgerking is a dive. The food is gross, the staff are thick, the management are cost-cutting pricks.

As far as fast food goes McDonalds can't be beaten. Big Mac gets my vote.

Also, if you put a McDonalds and a Burgerking together (as they are in Blanchardstown) I guarantee you the McDonalds will be full to capacity and the Burgerking will be about half full if its lucky.

That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

my vote would have to go for XL bacon double cheese burger. Not a better burger to be found between the 2 places.

Is it true that burgerking is slightly perferred to than MacDonalds in America?

BK, just because of the XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger.

I vote for Timmy-joes fish and chips in Chapelizod. Although I've never been in Chapelizod, Timmy-joe sounds like a horse of a man who deserves my vote. Well done Timmy-joe!

I'm sorry but Burgerking is a dive. The food is gross, the staff are thick, the management are cost-cutting pricks.

And this is different from McDonalds how?

Last time i had a burger in BK i felt violently ill after it and have never gone back.

    Big girls blouse.

Well, the poll itself should say it all for anyone, it's quite clear that BK is the choice of dodgy fast food eatery.

    McDonalds 15 22.39%
    BugerKing 52 77.61%

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

McDonalds every time. BK food usually tastes nicer, but it's a hell of a lot less consistent. When you pick up a mcDonalds burger, it's going to taste like a fairly average, bland burger. When you pick up anything from BK it MAY taste nice... Or it may give you food poisoning, be burnt beyond recognition or just be generally inedible. I'm not keen on their standards of hygiene either.

Having managed a Fast-food resturant, (for far too long) i can say that I dont belive there is any real difference between McDoanld and BK's hygine.

Personal experiences aside (on any given day you can have an unrepresentative experience which will prejudice you for life) , they are about par with each other. 1 thing i do remember is a McDonalds resturant being closed down a few years ago for breaches of the health regulations. I've not heard that happening to BK in ireland.

As for the food, BK is far better. There fries are great, the way they stay hotter longer, (McDonalds fries always cold by the halfway stage) and the burgers taste much nicer flamegrilled, that squeezed till theres no juice aka McDonalds grills.

if only they had the mcflurrys in BurgerKing :(

actually if only they had the dime bar mcflurry in ireland

BK for preference (om nyom, XL Double Cheesbugers, also triple cheeseburgers), but I'm partial to a bit of MegaMac goodness (grr, don't have them in .ie, the bastards)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Never mind the megamac. It's the double quarter pounder you want :)

Or the McChicken Premiere - McDonalds food in tasting bloody nice shocker.
