    Friends,

Well done with the protest over the 15th you have our support and congradulations.

Socialist Youth is a Marxist organisation of young people fighting against capitalism and racism on an all Ireland basis.

We are the youth wing of Irelands Socialist Party however to be a member of Socialist Youth you dont have to hold membership of that organisation.

Every saturday at Dublians central bank plaza, or at near city hall belfast etc and nationwide we hold stalls against capitalism.

For more on us please feel free to visit our web site.

    http://www.socialistyouth.cjb.net

I will also post a link by the end of today on the Socialist Youth website for this organisation.

    Solidarity*struggle*Socialism

    Yours Comradely
    Socialist Youth

Does this not constitute spam? He claims their support because we are 'against capitalism' (is there something we need to know dahmasta :) ) and even gets the date of the blackout wrong. Should you delete it or leave for all to laugh at? :)

Glad - lol, but not exactly something that should come from you given the history between yis :)

I've seen SWP and SWF and SY jump on bandwagons before... thanks for your support but as an individual who has nothing to do with the IOFFL except supporting them with actions I have to say this is a NON POLITICAL protest.

Its not ideologically driven, its not political, its not even a "PROTEST" in the tear-gas-and-riot-police style.

I dont welcome groups with agendas personally, I'd rather you wished it success in a personal capacity.

    DeV.

The great thing about IOffline is that it is non-political-
We have no agenda based on civil war hangups or any ideological stances. So best kept thay way.

BTW- The IrelandOffline Blackout is in no way a anti-capitalist protest- Its a protest by ordinary ppl about an ordinary issue as citizens/residents of Ireland- so this is not a bandwagon SY can hop onto as a flag of convenience:)

My god. I knew it had to happen, those bleedin' SP's just couldn't keep away. They would join in on the protest of a letter-opening if they knew about it and now they're getting involved in this?

Let's think of a few things here:
    • If the SPs had their way, they'd totally nationalise Eircom and with their policies, thwart any genuine attempt at introducing low-cost broadband access - given the history of socialist governments Europe-wide
    • This is yet another cynical move by a group of ideological conservatives to attempt to get in with the grass roots of popular opposition to anything they can think of. How can IOFFL be linked to proletarian struggle, Mr. Socialist Youth? If you ask me, it's an entirely consumer-fairness based movement centered around self-interest. Not very socialist, is it? You'd be better off protesting about those poor people who lost their jobs in ireland.com. But then, where's the publicity in that?
    • Can anyone tell me for definite if http://www.socialistyouth.cjb.net went offline yesterday? I doubt it.

You SPs are always doing this, linking you're old-fashioned views to entirely separate, non-political movements. Has the Socialist Party really got an interest in Critical Mass or Buy Nothing Day? Not really, but I'm sure all you idiots are going to be waving your placards all over the place, hijacking anything you can get your grubby hands on.

Mind you, you're not as bad as the SWPs. Sub-commondante Joe (TD) is a nice man by all accounts.

Have you kids actually read Marx? Have you realised that he was wrong in so many ways? Last time I checked, broadband internet access wasn't mentioned in Das Kapital.

What we need to do is to highlight that UTV internet are offering flat rate products & Irish abroad are offering flat rate products for the US.http://www.irishabroad.com/Members/ISPWelcome.asp
As for socialist support - thanks - but I think the socialists should lobby Dick Spring who is on the Eircom board.

    Dick is also a socialist.

One fella comes here to offer his support to us, and you all start flaming and insulting him, when clearly his intentions were only good. Why did this happen? Sickening

    Enough now!

    Excuse me?

Who died and put you in charge?

When did you get to say when enough is enough?

I just read the entire thread with my abuse-sense on "High" and its fine. Guy comes to make some political point... guy gets cut up by many people (myself included)

point out where anyone insulted or abused him?
Are we now to not express contrary opinions? to point out the emperor clothes? One of the things I like a lot about boards is the free expression of opinion in a volatile and lively setting. So long as it doesnt descend into abusive flaming, I see nothing wrong with it.

If Mr SY wants to debate it, I'll be the FIRST to protect him from abuse. Everything else is freedom of expression.

And you know if he had come here *personally* to offer his support I doubt he'd have had this reaction. Quite the opposite. But basking in reflected light or aligning themselves with IOFFL without asking is bold and he got smacked down.

    DeVore.

    Mat,

If you look at his post again, you'll notice that only his first line refers to the Blackout.

After that, it's a party-political broadcast on behalf of the Socialist (Youth) Party.

I think that the comments made about his post were perfectly fair and above board. I didn't notice ANY insults what so ever.

    Mike

    No one Afaik
When did you get to say when enough is enough?

That wasnt the point.I am for freedom of speech and freedom of expression and the like, but I think that these flame-fests arent productive.

Just to clarify things here, the Socialist Party (of which the Socialist Youth are, suprisingly, the youth wing) are not the Socialist Worker Party.

The Socialist Workers tend to have this belief that they're going to take power in some bloodless coup (only smotherings... :) ) some day, the Socialists tend to have a respect for the democratic protest hence they have one TD that I'm aware of.

Christ, I'm sick of this ****!
To my experience there are 2 types of communists, the 1st are poor people, if they were better off they would think differently, the 2nd are idiotic teenagers trying to be different. Dont you ****ing lie to me and say you give two ****s about this and that, I was once like you, thought it was cool to be different. I have already seen this group, yes it was at www.treasureisland.ie they tried to get the rockers from blast to get into their pathetic little cult and ended up embarassing themselves, maybe there trying again but now know what to say in reply to our insults.
I think this thread is worh ignoring from now on, this forum is about fighting for braudband and flatrate, not to satisfy some stupid kids thriving for attention.

    What is the problem?

Mr. SY logged in gave his congradulations etc. and described his grouping...Never once did he use the word join us or what ever.

An outside organisation gave its congradulations to this campaign and offered free advertisement for it from its links page. AND WHAT HAS IT RECIEVED?

NOTHING BUT ABUSE from the members of ireland unline. This is wrong. on the main page it askes people support them it asks people to advertise them. But when someone does it SEEMS THEY GET ABUSE AND REDICULE.

Why do you do this? You are only hurting the campaign PEOPLE WONT SUPPORT YOU if you do this to honest people who agree with what you are doing.

end this now.....your only hurting yourselves WHO WOULD WANT TO SUPPORT OR CONGRADULATE YOU IF YOU TREAT THEM LIKE THIS?

Scorpio, "Mr. SY" logged in and congratulated us on the event, - even though he got the date of it wrong - fair enough. He then proceeded to use the remaining 90% of his post to extoll the virtues of a political party... NOT fair enough.

From reading his post, it didn't seem like he was genuinely interested in what we were doing, and I agree with the "bandwagon"/"jumping on" comments, hence the closure of this thread.
