    Sweet ampage, sweet price!

That's the amp Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt uses. Damn, I'd like it.

    Money tbh. :(

I only just managed to scrape together enough spare cash for new tubes for my Mesa Boogie, so I think I'll be sorted with that. ;)

Hmm... I've actually lost interest in that amp, I found out that Mikael Akerfeldt's distortion comes from his GT-6 and it's only the cleans he relies on it for. Don't think that's the kinda setup I'd like to have really.

    Does it matter?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭fish-head

It does a bit, they dont have TV Jones pickups and they feel a bit crap..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Feel is usually down to a **** setup, which is fairly common in non top-of-the-range guitars, but is nothing that can't be very easily sorted out. Plus, does the cost of buying some TV Jones pickups and install them bring the guitar up to the cost of a US one (about €2500 I do believe)? Not quite. Worth a punt IMO if that's the guitar you like.

Where are you getting your tubes chief? I just ordered a full reset for my rectifier from eurotube after someone telling me about it. There supposed to be class!! I'll let ya know the whole lot was only 140 yoyo's. Should be here this week...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

Heres a selection of some for the Nomad. The mesa tubes are ****. I've never ever been happy with them. Groove tubes are a joke too. This dude was recommended to me through a friend.

    https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.php?page=view_products&category_id=6&sub_category_id=51

I can't wait for mine to show up. I got this one after chatting to Bob...

Mesa Dual Rec 6V6 - GZ34 - High gain pre option
DESC: Want power tube breakup at a little less volume? How about a great warm clean tone? Want the punch of playing in the solid state rec mode but the warmth of playing in the tube rec mode without the mush? This kit may be your answer! A quad of the JJ 6V6's which are fat and full sounding with a little less power, a pair of the JJ GZ34's along with 5 JJ ECC83S's, 3 hand picked high gain tubes for V1, V2 & V3 and balanced PI tube for V5 will get you the warmest tone I've heard yest from a Dual Rec and a chunky fat rhythm & rippin lead!! These should be run in the EL34 mode and tube rectifier mode which will get the bias just right!

Also ordered a new tube for my fender Roc Pro :)

Yeah but if I was gonna go with a Gretsch I'd like to go the whole hog.
Though I wouldnt pay that much cash, I'd buy second hand from yankland.

Yeah Dabhoys, those are indeed the very tubes I'm going for. Or rather would be going for if it wasn't for the damned postal service. I'd be afraid of them getting to Ireland and then be stuck in some warehouse for a few months. :v:

Why you afraid they'll get stuck in a Warehouse?

I'm going to do a before and after recording comparison. I was trying to record the other nite with my rectifier as is and it was terrible. There was no good tone to be obtain!!! I'm so pissed off. I know this amp is capable of so much better. I was chatting to your man Bob. You run the 6v6 tubes with the Bias set to EL34 and with the rectifer in Vacuum Tube with the certain order of pre amp tubes. It seems to me like this guys has tried and tested and has come accross a good combination. I've replaced the tubes before but with stock mesa stuff and I've never been impressed. Especially the pre amp tubes. Its time for change and I hope this will help my problem. When I'm recording its nice to have the good gear. I'm eyeing up a 5150 aswell for my collection :)

Ok, I'm afraid they'll end up in a ditch somewhere in Finglas with all the other mail piled on top. Who can tell with the postal service in Ireland?

I am really looking forward to getting the tubes at some stage though, a lot of the people at sevenstring.org who have Nomads, got the JJ tubes off Rob, and absolutely swear by them, so I'm quite eager.

If you think they sound good, don't bother. I'm only planning on changing mine, because I think the distorted channel is lacking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭fish-head

Ah I see. I dont use the drive channel on my amp..
