I know some of you will have seen this in the Leinster supporters newsletter, but for those of you who missed it ...
Women in rugby has never really gained the attention of the masses, this however is going to change. Leinster Womens Rugby have designed a calender of women in rugby to highlight the feminine side of players and to raise awareness of the womens game. Women's rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and with an 117% increase in teams in Leinster alone over the past two seasons it is set to keep this phenomenal pace up. The calendar will be launched on November 18th and is a steal at only €15.

They are offering the calender to rugby clubs at half price (€7.50). Thses clubs can in turn sell the calender at whatever price they feel suitable or auction them off to raise funds for their clubs. The calender will be onsale in the Leinster Rugby Store in Donnybrook and online at www.leinsterrugbystore.ie. If clubs would like to avail of this offer they can contact Caitriona Bergin at cbergin@leinsterrugby.ie or get in contact with the Leinster Branch to order their copies. Leinster Womens Rugby would like to say thank you to the Sunday Tribune for sponsoring this venture and supporting women's rugby. And also they would to thank OB Sports for their continued sponsorship and support of the women's game. OB Sports can cover all your sporting needs, check out their website www.obsport.ie

    Teaser

A lot of hard work went into producing this calendar. It really is worth getting.

I've already had people order copies from me!

    A perfect stocking filler ;)

the thing i dont understand is that women always complain how they are depicted in pornography and stuff, how mean walk all over them and abuse them to get money.

yet the brazillian football team did it, and ive seen so many others do it. this is for a good cause, but is a slight contradiction of what some women believe in.

    whatever suits i suppose.

ive nothing against it btw, its all good :P

Erm...it's not in any shape pornographic....it's celebration of the female athletic form.

I did find the August dildo pic a bit OTT though... ;)

Clearly you haven't seen the calendar.

There is nothing pornographic about any of the pictures in the calendar. All shots are tastefully done and no one was exploited for the purposes of it.

The calendar was produced as it was believed to be a fun way of highlighting the women's game. It's designed, as I said above, to highlight the feminine side of the sport and it's players. All the women photographed play rugby in Leinster, they're not, as has been suggested elsewhere, models brought in for the pictures and all were fully aware of what the photos were being taken for and were happy to be photographed in order to support and promote the game they love.

Women's rugby players are often given a raw deal and get a lot of flack from both men and women for perhaps being less feminine, rugby is a tough, physical game, but as you can tell from the calendar you don't have to be right bruiser in order to play it, succeed at it and most importantly to enjoy it, The aim of the calendar was to show that the women who play it are feminine, it also aims to promote the game in Leinster and to raise badly needed funds for the promotion and development of the women's game.

This calendar wasn't/isn't exploitative, nobody photographed has their face shown in the photo to protect annonymity, all shots are tasteful and no photo was included if the person was unhappy with it. How you can compare it to pornography is beyond me.

fistly I dont think anyone is trying to make womens rugby into some sort of charity case whatever that means,

Secondly, I for one think it's great that women play rugby and it is quite enjoyable to watch as the standard is not half bad.

Thirdly who are you and what are you doing trying to harrass these girls for trying to raise a bit of money for their sport/team?

Well I didn't really ban him.

Wouldn't want him to cry. He's probably just feeling lonely this close to Christmas and is taking his frustrations out on the rugby forum.

    Obviously.

    Night night.

Don't forget to leave a mince pie and some stout out for Santa on Saturday night, contrary to popular belief Rudolf doesn't really like carrots, he's too old these days and just can't digest them properly any more.
