Hey, what did you want to be when you where younger? and what are you doing now? Did you make your dream job a reality? Or where did it all go wrong??
I wanted to be famous, or a journalist, I write for an event guide and I am marketing manager for an IT company, but I only finished college a few months ago, and haven't ruled out getting back into the media. I don't want to be famous anymore (so that dream changed) but I do want to be involved in the media!!!!!:p ;):D:) :o  :( :D:p:o

I'm guessing that in some sort of crazy scheme to increase the workforce of nurses they trained more than one girl how to do it.

When I was three I wanted to be a shepherd. I had it all planned out, my parents would mind the sheep for me when I went on holidays.

When I was older than thst (7-9) I wanted to open a restaurant with my friend and we's cook together.

Now I either want to do something in drama or music or something in international diplomacy/politics.

When I was younger I wanted to be a vet, then thought about going into IT. Did work experience in an IT firm and said no way. Now I'm doing business in college(as generic as you can get) and haven't a clue what I want to do or where I'm going to end up.

I wanted to work in radio... presenting, producing, etc.

I'm now a salesman in a computer retail outlet... AND a presenter and producer on a local community radio station \o/ - so I guess I've (sort of) realised that dream.

Next step is to make it a paid job/career... :D

But didn't he go on a Russian ship? Wouldn't that make him Ireland's first Cosmonaut.

So the position of Ireland's first Astronaut is still open.

You know that scene at the end of The Shawshank Redemption, when Morgan Freeman's character goes looking for Tim Robbin's character and eventually finds him on some island working on a boat?

Well that's what I want to do when I grow up - build boats on a tropical island with no boss and no cares.

    I'm an Engineer now... *Yawn*

when i was about three or four i wanted to be a meterologist and used to spend my time drawing maps of ireland (well what i thought looked like maps of ireland). Then soon after i wanted to do anything that was involved with horses. After jurassic park i wanted to be a palentologist, at the time i wasnt too sure what it was but if it involved dinosaurs i thought that would be cool! when i hit 13 i just wanted to be famous, but seeing as i couldnt dance, sing, act and was too short to be a model, that kinda didnt work out.....

I wanted to be a zoologist and only work with monkeys, but only the baby monkeys. I was very fussy!
For a while I also wanted to drive a JCB. I think it was the yellow colour that got me?!

Ended up working with a bunch of monkeys in IT, so I guess I kinda got what I wished for I guess.

I really wanted to be a teacher so I could write on the blackboard.

Then, I realised I was ****e at looking after kids.

So, now I'm 6 months away from being a qualified journalist. No children there!

Well, I wanted to be a photographer when I was a wee lad.. then a football star/webhosting genius (it sounded good in my head) Then because all the lads in my class in school were talkin about becoming a DJ - when it was still a craze like - I saved up like mad and bought me first set of decks. Then I went on to become a worldclass superstar DeeJay.. me arse! But it did lead me to do a course in radio, where I met the love of my life and all things became happy after that!

But at my young age I am a qualified barman, bouncer, DJ (if you can be qualified to do that), and I have worked as a plumber, electrician, steel erector (heh heh), and labourer.. and I'm happy as a plum now working for RTE where I get lots of money to pretend to be busy... nice!:D ;):p:) :o

Ha ha ha ha ha, sure when you've access to the net you're hardly gonna let something as trivial as work get in the way! I'd say that if I had no access to the net my productivity as a worker would go up at least 30% to 40%... don't tell any employer friends though - they might take it away! :D

seriously, every week I do feck all until the day before my deadline, then I kill myself to get it all done, and have the neck to complain about being overworkd!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! Sometimes I think about having boards blocked, just so I could get some work done..... but then I think...............NAAAAHHHhhhhhhh!!:p

My dad told me this... I don't remember really but I wanted to be a shop keeper when i was small!.... So i could eat all the sweets!!!

Ehhh... I'm kinda happy that I opted for the receptionist job instead!! (my teeth would probably be falling out of my head by now!! )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,349 ✭✭✭nobodythere

I wanted to be a JCB....

Since I was 10 or 11, I've wanted to be a barrister. So far I've got the law degree and a Masters and am paralegaling while I get money together for going to the King's Inns. I'm nine months and one degree away from doing what I've wanted to do since I was a kid. YAY!

The only thing that worries me is that I won't like it when I finally get there!

    In order, from age four:

    Fireman
    T-Rex
    Astronaut
Adventurer (that seems to have come true actually)
    Football + Gaelic Football goalie
Teacher (On course for that, hope to become a lecturer within 15 years after I get good experience in my career).

Currently taking a year our of college, completed three years and have a Diploma in Computer Science. It's a far bit away from a T-Rex. :(

Apparently when I was very young I used to say I wanted to be a gardener - I used to help my Grandad in his vegetable garden.....then went to uni where I was trying to make it in business at the same time as studying - was naive enough to think I would become a millionaire....
