No they're gimicky. If you're too lazy to lift weights and do cardio then strictly speaking, it's better than doing nothing, but that's as much as I'll concede to fit balls. Search for a thread we had about them a while ago where myself and joc opposed them but boru was for them if you wanna see a more balanced argument...

Fit balls are really beneficial for sports in general. If you’ve hit a plateau doing normal abs work, starting to do your ab work on a body ball will give them a good deep work out and get them burning again. Very import to get an instructor to show you good form.

Investing time developing core strength is highly beneficial. Most of our power and speed come’s from our core. Conditioning and strengthen your core results in better returns in other area’s.

Body balls can be used for training most body parts. You could try doing press ups’ with just your feet on the ball or doing dumbbell press (really light weights starting off) with your back on the ball. When doing these exercises you have to maintain your balance so as a result you’re a using a lot more stabilizing and some of the smaller connecting muscles. These stabilizing and smaller connecting muscles can get neglected during other exercises especially it someone uses the weight machines as opposed to free weights. We’re only as strong as our weakest link.

Most gyms have them so maybe have a try and see what you think before you purchase.

    Cheers
