I quite like this site, but don't like the sarcastic comments everyone keeps making. I notice it on every Internet forums I go on. Its like everyones trying outsmart eachother with a smart reply to get street cred from their fellow users. Or If you say something a little different, everyone will gang up on you like some cheesy Internt gang. This would piss me off in real life, and was just wondering If anyone agrees with me or notices this. And the people who do this, are you like this in real life? Cos It's really annoying

I don't think you understand the meaning of the word sarcastic.

You will find some people can be rather sycophantic online, and most people at one point or another find themselves unwittingly doing it. The vast majority of people would be much more willing to speak out online than in real life. That's the nature of the internet.

I know you didn't want to hear it, but if you take offence from what are only words, then you may as well just stay away.

sarcastic no way,i just abuse them outright because unless they are a pycho they are not going to ban me from life.

It's easy to be brave and say sharp things when you're not looking at the people you're saying it too. People will obviously try and be more funny on message boards, they know a lot of people are reading them plus you get to make considered remarks so people get to reply the way they want to and in a lot of cases the way they can't in a face to face conversation. Well that's my take on it anyways! I don't think it's as sarcastic and cutting as some people believe but def not real life conversations

I'm as, or more, cynical in real life. I'm not really sarcastic. My sense of humour is odd anyways.

Personally I've found people to be more abusive online rather than sarcastic.

Yes Seamus, you're right, you're always right, you're a great mod like that! :D

Anyway, I think I'm more sarcastic in real life, but in a nice and non-malignant way! ;) Online, there are so many sarcastic people, that I try to be different... but with some posts... I just can't help it! *shrug*

I had my sarcasm beaten out of me by online americans. Like iraq war militants they captured me and placed me in a little box and hit me repeatedly until I had lost most of my senses (humour, sacrasm, irish wit in general) but I was rescued by boards.ie some years later.
While the psychological wounds still make it difficult to be outrightly sarcastic (fear of being beaten and abused), being around a race who do not fear sarcasm is helping to heal my wounded soul.

    (god bless sarky)

    I love you all

I'm not that sarcastic on-line or irl tbh.

Sometimes, I'm more helpful on line as well. Internet personas aren't always more negative than real life ones.

in all honesty im more sarcastic in real life, i feel ( a *little*) mean being sarcastic to people i dont know

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

I've been told I'm condescending, overly sarcastic and abrasive IRL...so not that different to on here then.
On the other hand I've been told I'm kind, helpful and funny IRL too...something you won't see as often with my online persona...

im mostly the same in real life and online life, only i dont sign things with sparky_s.

But i do feel its easier to express things online, which is good as sometimes we need a good debate on topics that otherwise some people would feel in real life wouldnt be worthy of talking about.

But id say sarcastic topics get sarcastic answers.

    *hello fuzzy* :D

I don't normally do or appreciate sarcasm unless it comes across in a witty way but when someone puts up a stupid post i will reply sarcastically
