Does anyone know for sure when CIV4 is to be released?

Amazon.co.uk is saying October 21st (i.e. this Friday) but game.co.uk are saying November 4th.

I need to know when to book a week of work!!!!

I have it pre-ordered from Play.com, and they have a release day of the 28th of Oct (which was the 21st about a month back).

New Civ? There goes the next couple of months :D

Some of the screenshots on that page look a bit confusing (this one for instence -- arrows and circles and lines and such.. whats all that about?). Can't wait to have a go all the same.

No reviews / previews about yet no?

officially, release is 25th of October stateside (on 2 CDs), 4th november across Europe (on DVD, don't know why they use different formats)

    from http://www.civfanatics.com/
2 CDs for North America, DVD for Europe

Forum member Mercade contacted Firaxis about the DVD requirement of Civilization IV and received a reply from Kelley Gilmore, Marketing Manager at Firaxis:

Civ IV will ship on 2 CD-ROMs to North American stores on October 25th and on a DVD to stores in Europe on November 4th.

I pre-ordered mine form Play.com (for only €28 delivered, great deal) they say they're posting on the 28th, this friday, but i've noticed play.com do this before with new releases, i guess they're allowed because of delay in post, the idea being consumers get it around the day of official release and don't have to wait for an extra week.

However, living here in Ireland as I do, it usually takes about 2 weeks (8-10 working days) for deliveries to arrive. I hope i'll have it on the 4th, but that's only 4 working days after dispatch with the bank holdiay.

I've re-checked my order from Play, and they have changed the release date:
    "Due for release on 04/11/2005".

Delivery times seem to differ for Play.com depending on the material posted, with DVDs being slightly faster than books, I found.

Also seems to be some "bugs" in Civ 4 especially with newer ATI graphics cards.. See http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=133133

Hopefully they have a patch out to the 4th Nov.

i've an X800, i see it mentioned on the link... rats. I also see a potential fix mentioned so i'll keep my fingers crossed. If Play are only posting on the 4th it'll be more like the 18th when i get mine :(

Still, i figure i've saved at least €20 or so, and i've no money to spare atm. :(

the 8th working day has been and gone with no post man pat bearing gifts to cheer me...

surely tm? or it may go for the record 10 working days for a play.com delivery. still, twas a bargain price so I can't complain (too much)

Ah, but I already have several games under my belt. Was it a false economy perhaps?

Interstingly I got it in Dublin on the Friday it was released. It was sold out in the first shop I tried in at lunchtime!

I have finished a few games already. I knew it would be cheaper to buy online, but I didn't fancy waiting.

ah right, yeah well I figure i'll be playing this game for 3-4 years, so whats two weeks extra in the waiting when I'm saving a good chunk... But it better come tm or i'll storm An Post and working conditions will get a whole lot worse! Annoyingly the An Post depot is down the road from me, it's probably been waiting there for delivery a few days.

How much did you pay sliabh?

I finished my farewell game in Civ 3 on Saturday! Don't want to start a new one that I wouldn't finish but if Civ 4 doesn't come tm...

As to the price, at €28 I've saved nearly 50% and i've little money to spare so I'm happy with my decision so far...

Have civ 3 and all the expansions. Was always meaning to get around to playing the game but never did.

i'm sitting here covered in a lovely tech tree from Civ 4.... its here HURRRAY!!!

Now i've got my fingers crossed my ATi card works as the work around is labourious

EDIT: sweet lord no! the disc is scratched to bits looks like somebody played air hockey with it for a month on a table of sand paper.

result: Completely unreadable on 3 different DVD drives. i'm gonna cry.

Ouch man, that's really bad luck! After waiting so long.

Return it and go buy it from the high street. I know the 50 odd quid most places are selling it for may seem like daylight robbery, but once you're playing its well well worth it. Absolutely class game.

    Very bad luck.
The cheapest so far I've seen it was in XtraVision for about 40€.

well i've decided just to buy it in a shop as the turnaround would be at least another month. What extravision was this?

Smyths is currently out of stock, i'm planning on getting it tm anyhow, i hope HMV will have it at low price but I doubt it, I also hope Game have reduced it. I've suffered enough methinks!

    Thanks delly for info...

I'm sitting at home reading the manual and looking at the tech tree, torture.

takes a bit of getting used to, combat is a lot harder with all the defensive bonuses on offer, even modest units can beat off hordes of superior ones. Makes you think a lot more about what units to send as they have different advantages, what with the defender changing depending on what unit is attacking.

e.g. their spear men slaughter my cav including my elephants, but if i send in infantry, their archers slaughter them, oppressive numbers is the best soloution i've found to crack a well defended city, even all my catapults can't tip the balance at times

Still the Aztecs have all but perished under the unrelentlying Germanic horde, bent on spreading Christianity at any cost (what? they converted already... shucks, too little too late, let'em have it!!)
